The Shining or or his short story collections is where most people start. Try his novellas like The Mist which is in Skeleton Crew. Read the plot synopsis on wiki for each story and see which one you are interested in. I read his stories like a pick and mix. I can recommend some more if you are interested but The Jaunt and The Raft from the same collection are good. The Gunslinger is a very good introduction to Kings weirder fiction if you are interested and you could finish it over a weekend. The Stand and It are my favourites though even know they are self indulgent and have lulls in them. If you think of them as a collection of stories, its easier to swallow (especially The Stand).
Why are people hyping up this show like its the best thing ever. There is some good stuff about it but its all down to the kids and pennywise. Next time I watch this, I will probably skip the military, racial and native american plotlines because they are so badly handled.

He still sleeps every 26 or whatever years. He couldn’t be in all towns at once. So IT now moves from town to town , every 26 years eats a dozen kiddos and burns down a church or whatever and then sleeps. No one in America would even acknowledge any of this, there would be no greater fear or anything that causes people to be unified and peaceful.
