This is easily the funniest movie made in the last 10 years. I was laughing out loud all the way and I am generally a surly person. Why is it relegated to cult film status instead of being universally celebrated as a modern classic like say, Tropic Thunder?
Reddit the movie
>only two Americans>a topic Americans dread like the H*locaust
>>216514302Most people assume it's political propaganda and shy away from it
Makes 4chan madMakes Reddit madOnly chad imdbers appreciate it
>>216514328Tropic Thunder was also well received by the reddit audience, doesn't make it less funny. reddit also likes Blazing Saddles which was awesome. big lebowski is the most reddit movie ever made and it's good. sometimes I think they're alright. the most offensive thing about redditors is their love of capeshit
>>216514361Kek this, brown rightwingers with Jew DNA and globhomo leftist fags equally hate this movie
>>216514302Yeah it's great.Quite different, but another funny Soviet-themed film is 'Goodbye Lenin' if you haven't seen it yet.>Why is it relegated to cult film statusmy guess is the masses have such a poor knowledge of history that they don't follow it well and/or are not interested
>no quotes ITTyou need memorable quotes for your film to have staying powerthis is a netflix one and done
>>216514649zhukov showing off his medals was meme tier
>>216514649
>>216514328>redditThis has turned into a meaningless buzzword used to describe whatever accuser doesn't like.Things that I have lately seen be called reddit by faggots.>making jokes at the expense of marxism>liking ecchi anime>making racist jokes
Yeah I was very pleased with it when I finally watched it few months ago. Only recent time in memory Buscemi has had a good role
>>216514328
It is about as good as a Fish Called Wanda. Obviously as American I am missing stuff, but I doubt it is that much better if you are British. Maybe the British have weird taste convergently.
>>216514302>Why is it relegated to cult film status instead of being universally celebrated as a modern classic like say, Tropic Thunder?Gonna say that it's probably not going to appeal to everyone like Tropic Thunder did with some low hanging fruit.
>>216514399>big lebowski is the most reddit movie ever madeI can't fucking stand people who do this shit; stuff made decades before is "reddit"
>>216514302i bought the dvd years ago because you turds gaslitten me into thinking it would be good. i watched it exactly once. i consider it passable but not even remotely as funny as any of you led me to believe. and i don't like how zhukov is portrayed as some badass war hero despite being an incompetent social climber like every single one of stalin's courtesans. the only thing i liked was andrea riseborough playing svetlana, she's mediocre as an actress but she was cute there.bonus point for dan mersh making a cameo, completely nonexistant as a hollywood name but it's the voice actor of markus kruber in vermintide, and i like that game a lot.
>>216515606It is much better when you are Euopean and have more European history knowledge.
>>216515432This guy was based as hell
>>216515813He was the anger relief character for the viewers.
>>216515606A fish called wanda is a masterpiece though anon? And one of the funniest films ever made.
>>216516202It is severely funny. I chuckled first at the baby seal dart gag. I cackled heartily at the concrete tarmac confusion gag.The directing of the American character was not very funny to me, nor was his dialogue. I might watch it again, but I was underwhelmed. And Cleese has a funny moment where the girl sees his penis while he dances. This is typical British horseshit and not funny. Cleese's other moments are as good as some Monty Python stuff, but the film is overrated. I don't know comedy very well.
>>216514353what I find humorous about it is that the film is barely even that political. It certainly makes the commies look bad, but most of that is a combination of satire, and the simple historical fact that stalinist russia was an absurd clowntown shitshow. Beyond that, the film has little if any concerted political message or propaganda of any kind, which is why it amuses me that kremlin shills still seethe over it anyway.
>>216516254>It is severely funny.>This is typical British horseshit and not funnywhich is it anon?and the american character is the best part of the movie for me
>>216515432The real Zhukov had more of a fun grandpa vibe.He loved Coca Cola.
>>216514302SAAAAAAAAAARPLEASE TO STOP LAUGHING AT THE UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
>>216516302It is full of excellent writing, but perhaps "hit or miss". I feel the same way about Schizopolis. As American, I rate the latter higher, but it was a later comedy to be fair.
>>216515811>I told Stalin to lie on the floor and he did it; the absolute madman
>>216514302I'm probably the only one here who knows that it's based on a comicalso, I'm one of the rare ones that actually red the comic before I watched the movie
>>216516349He loved fishing; he had a fishing kit gifted from Eisenhower.
>>216517022I knew it was based on a comic, but never cared to check it up. Is it any good? How different is it from the movie?
>>216517070If I remember correctly it's pretty similar but some characters have bigger, some smaller rolesZhukov isn't as cool as in the movie
>>216517156also, where I live, it's out-of-print and worth 70-100 EUR
>>216516278It's not even that historically-accurate (Krustchev was very political and right-wing, while Beria was not nearly as genteel), it's just a good setting for a comedy.
>>216516278news flash. its not le kremlin shills, its unironic reddit tankies.
>Why is it relegated to cult film status instead of being universally celebrated as a modern classic like say, Tropic Thunder?Because tropic thunder contains pretty universal comedy tropes and gags to the average person. I could show the death of stalin to 100 people and I think like 25 of them would say it wasn't funny but good, 50 would say it wasn't funny, and the rest would find it to their type of humor. I'm not preaching it as an elevated form of humor or myself as an intellectual, it's just not as physical or outrageous as most people want in a comedy
>>216514328>anything I don't like is reddit
>>216517641same differencealso although I don't doubt that the vast majority were unpaid reddit tankies, I also know for a fact that the russian government got very pissy about the movie, it was/still is banned in russia iirc. Similar reaction HBO's chernobyl miniseries. Anything that makes russia look bad, even in a historically truthful fashion, gets blocked out. So I wouldn't be surprised if some of their well-established shills took some time to shit on the movie.
>>2165143614chan loved it tho
>>216517597>It's not even that historically-accurateIt is shockingly accurate actually, they mostly just condensed down the timeline from a few months to days to make it funnier.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG-tG-Wo0Do

>>216519601It’s so weird how they flipped from wanting European nations defending themselves to wanting Russia to fuck everyoneWas /pol/ always just a mouthpiece for the FSB?
>>216514302buscemi telling his wife "no more jokes about the navy" was the hardest i laughed. I think its just below 90iq retards and commiefags who hate this. 7/10 comedy in an age of slop feels like a 9/10
>>216519651The board has been completely infested for several years now by Chinese and Russian shills who knew how to sell the message that democracy and the West is bad and authoritarian shitholes are le heckin trvad and based to a handful of the most unhinged chudcels (much of that shilling subcontracted to India lmao) if you add to that the ridiculous amount of brown diaspora posters you get that result
>>216519651>ukraine vs russia >Isreal vs palestine>ukraine sides with isreal >russia sides with palestinethis simple fact kills most shills. the normie underdog supporting mind can't comprehend picking opposing sides, so they ignore it and pretend they haven't. the "ukraine are based nazis!!" types can't comprehend them supporting isreal. the "RUSSIA WILL DEFEAT WESTERN DEGENERACY AND SAVE WHITES!!" types, can't comprehend russia being allied to all the muslims and importing them in. point being, lots of anti isreal types are now anti nato. this is why /pol/ shifted so quickly from le save europe to le russia. both of these slav shitholes are being slowly replaced, but both are busy shitting up our mongolian music torrenting website instead of doing anything about it. this is why I ignore these fags. anytime you see ukr/rus seethe just say "don't care about the slavbowl" and move on.
>>216514302I just watched this for the first time yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Jeffery Tambor got metooed right after it was released which I think is why it was memory-holed
>>216514649The delay has been noted.
>>216514302This is both funnier and more entertaining in general and stuff.
>>216519651/pol/ was a loose collective of outcasts and misfits ranging from trailer trash to politicians, and that's just the whites. It was never unified as people imagine it was. Post-2016 it was more boomer, more brown, and more confused. Post-Russia-Ukraine it was flooded with Russians, the Chinese, and Indians for some reason. /pol/ isn't really /pol/ anymore, whatever that ever meant, it's now just a place for world governments to employ digital warfare.
>>216514649I HAVE DOCUMENTS
>>216519691Commiefags love this movie, what are you talking about?
Surprised no one has posted it yet.
>>216520019unfunny r*ddit flick
Tropic thunder sucked. Death of Stalin wasn't funny which is strange because Iannucci is a great comedy writer. Stepbrothers was unironically the last funny movie ever made.
>>216520117really? I've experienced nothing but seethe. maybe the less stalinist types are into it, but the truly sub 80iq commies always boil when this film is posted
>>216520144Jesus Christ anon. If you're going to shit post that violently, at least spoiler it first.
>>216514302it's the only funny movie made in the last 10 years
>>216520144I like both, but I'd rate death of stalin over stepbrothers. adam scott and his deranged horny wife really carry that film
>>216520174Go to /leftypol/ ask what they think about the movie. The general consensus is that: cartoonish evil Stalin is expected, so whatever; Buscemi made an excelent Kruschov, Tambor playing Malenkov as an airhead was great, everyone loved Zhukov and Molotov; it's nice and refreshing seen a less discussed historical moment that you are interested in made into a movie. The general consensus is that Stalin would have liked the movie because Beria gets shot.
>>216520181Sorry but it's true, didn't laugh a single time througg TT. Giggled or smirked maybe once during Death of Stalin. Cinematic comedy has been dead for nearly 20 years but you people just don't want to admit it. Also Hangover sucked, throw that into the pile of "classic comedies" that are actually garbage. The Alan Partridge movie was alright though I guess
>>216519356This mostly seems an excuse to talk about real history. When he finally gets to the actual movie with opening scene with the letter, he calls it "mostly accurate" in summation then tepidly describes how it's not in description, hoping no one will notice - "Fact checker"/Snopes style. In fact, the letter from the pianist was actually about her being a huge kind of cringe Christfag that decided for some reason to call him out personally for being an atheist. Instead of denouncing him as an evil tyrant. Historically, Stalin didn't die laughing about how he was going to kill this dumb bitch for her insolence, he just kept on living and did nothing to her, shrugging it off (the opposite of the popular hostile conception of Stalin). We only know of the letter because he filed it, and the pianist was kind of famous. Maybe not too surprising when you think about it, considering Stalin was a former seminary student and his own mother died declaring she wished he had finished training to become a priest rather than the father of Russia. He was probably long grown numb to really religious people passive aggressively "praying for his soul." Basically on this scene, the movie is near the opposite of reality.
>>216520299Did you expect good historical analyses from a pop culture YouTube channel?
>>216519651>>216519802>>216519860>>216520031There are more redditfags on /pol/ today than there are posters from preCOVID.
>>216520752/pol/ was much better when it was filled with Libertarians and Nazis who would argue with each other but unite to mock commies and other Leftists. Now it's filled to the brim with killjoy Christian LARPers who are slightly more racist than mainstream Republicans.
>>216521632if that were true, it would be a trump worship board, but we can all see it's groypers and reddit having a constant melty.
>>216514302Oh yeah? I don't see funny webms posted all over like with The Naked Gun, Terrence & Bud or Monty Python.
>>216514649>Is this magisterial enough for you all? This charade? This is a lavatory!>Well, you should feel at home then, shouldn't ya, you little coil of shit.

>>216514649The head is the heaviest part!
>>216514302Agreed. This movie is hilarious
