The trilogy that had no solid foundation or story direction which instead they made up as they went along happened 10 years ago.

Forgotten, unloved, regrettable and soulless. Such is the story of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy that destroyed this once beloved franchise.
>>
The only memorable part for me was getting an early screening and telling everyone that Han Solo dies the next morning. Utterly forgettable movie.

There is literally no reason to rewatch the sequel movies, least of all TFA since we know it never follows up on the things it promises. They exist in a void.

Didn't watch. Won't watch.

Nope. The prequels destroyed the franchise. It was already dead when Disney attempted to Frankenstein it.

*Return of the Jedi

You're wrong anyway, the franchise was still very much beloved when Disney bought it, or they would have got it for less money.
>>
I remember /tv/ was really hoping for it to fail and got really excited when a reviewer called it a "glib facsimile"

Counterpoint: the prequels were hit and miss, but have a lot of good bits in them even if the movies overall were kind of a mess. BUT, importantly, the prequels spun off into a whole asston of additional star wars content that people DID like, such as all of that Clone Wars and Rebels shit that people ate up for years. The Prequel Era of Star Wars was an active, thriving part of the lore.

The Sequel Trilogy has no such saving grace. Absolutely nothing other than those three movies exists in that part of the timeline, and even Disney isn't in any rush to go within a thousand yards of them. The sequel trilogy has essentially killed all progression of the Star Wars timeline stone dead, because not only does no one WANT to fill in the gaps in that timeline, they CAN'T. There legitimately isn't enough coherent material to build out the rest of the setting in that era, none of it makes a lick of sense and we have absolutely zero concept of what the larger state of the galaxy even looks like.

People bemoaned the prequels for its writing, but Star Wars did just fine with it. The Sequels killed everything that they touched so badly that no one will risk going near them, trapping us in an eternal purgatory of interquels and prequels forever because there is no longer a future of Star Wars worth exploring.

There is a lot you can do with where the Sequels left the galaxy. Disney/Lucasfilm is just too chickenshit to take the leap.

Literally like what? We never got a clear answer of who the First Order, the evil badguy organization of 3 movies, actually were or even how big they were. The Force Awakens makes it seem like they have one or two old star destroyers and a secret base, the second movie has them pulling entire fleets out of their ass with superships, and the third movie basically ignores the First Order itself and replaces them with Sith 2.

The New Republic? Apparently had all of their forces in one system (no, we can't show it to you we promise they are all there just offscreen wow its amazing you should have seen it) and then they all died the end.

What was the galaxy's reaction to their entire system of government getting blown up by some guys with a superweapon, which they then immediately lost before they could use it again? Did anyone survive to try and hold things together? Was there a massive outcry as other systems rallied to try and fight the First Order in response to this unprovoked attack? Did everyone just ignore it and continue eating dinner? No idea! Nobody involved in the movie had any intention of pretending that other people exist once they get more than 10 ft away from Rey, Kylo, or Finn.

Name one single thing that the sequel trilogy introduces that you want to see more of. Because all I see are nostalgic references to older, better Star Wars media and questions that the movies never bothered to pretend were worth answering that another writer COULD probably insert fanfiction answers into but why bother at this point? There's only so much you can polish a turd.

Why did Revenge of the Sith to 2015 seem so much longer than TFA to now?
>>
>>216518087
less content slop overload in between so the time seems longer
>>
>>216516050
lmao and no one cares, but it’s crazy that it’s been longer than the time between prequels and TFA, but by the time TFA came out people were already starting to reappraise the prequels.
>>
>>216517020
Attack of the Clones is pure shit. One of the worst big-budget movies ever made
>>
>>216516850
Being so forgettable worked in their favor. By the final movie everyone had forgotten all the teasing and set ups in TFA that went absolutely nowhere and are now completely meaningless.

You mean 26 years ago.
