To continue, one would think that at least classic Hollywood for example would be appreciated on here, but no, even that is barely discussed. Because "aesthetic conservatism" is not "aesthetic traditionalism". Lots of classic Hollywood is "dated" and "boring" to those people as well. Because the aesthetic that got "conserved" in the normalfag collective taste is 80s Hollywood, when it pushed total commodification of cinema and appeal to the lowest common denominator. And many 80s Hollywood movies are by themselves, individually, really good, great even, but the overall influence of that period was destructive and Hollywood and audiences did not recover. Because of this, once relatively mainstream John Ford's Stagecoach, or Elia Kazan's Splendor in the Grass, or even the panned at the time Douglas Sirk's melodramas reveal an ocean deep artistic potency and might as well be seen by normies as borderline avant-garde compared to what current mass audience views as "appealing ".
