Give me a movie rec that captures the essence of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana.

Let's see who in the thread objectively has the closest vibe match.

This is the closest answer because it's a gay movie and Kurt Cobain was a spiritually a faggot and probably would have trooned out if he didn't join the 41% preemptively.

The 2001 film Moulin Rouge! features a prominent use of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," incorporating the song into its vibrant, eclectic soundtrack despite the film's 1920s Paris setting, which contrasts sharply with the grunge ethos of Nirvana.
This inclusion was notable, as Courtney Love reportedly deliberated for a long time before approving its use, with claims that she sought the lead role in the film, which ultimately went to Nicole Kidman.
The song's presence in the film helped bridge the gap between the 1990s grunge era and a romantic, theatrical narrative, making it a memorable and unexpected choice.

Another fitting film is The Muppets (2011), where "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is performed by the Muppet Barbershop Quartet in a humorous and self-aware cover, showcasing the song's cultural ubiquity and enduring appeal.
This version, while comedic, captures the song's iconic status and its ability to resonate across genres and audiences.

Additionally, The Batman (2022) features a powerful instrumental rendition of "Something in the Way," a track closely associated with the emotional depth and introspective tone of "Smells Like Teen Spirit," helping to define the film's moody, brooding atmosphere.
While not the same song, its thematic resonance with the angst and alienation central to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" makes it a compelling cinematic companion.

No Punk did.
Not only has Punk always just been obnoxious cringe BPD the music by people who can barely play their instruments. Punk gave us Scene Emo and Pop Punk which absolutely is the reason Rock music got seen as turbo cringe while RnB/Hip Hop started to get boosted in the late 1990s and early 00s.
Throw on top the only other "main" rock music at the time was gay ass normie rock like U2, Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Muse, Nickleback. It's no wonder rock was strangled in it's crib.
Grunge was fine and was a natural partner to Thrash at the time. Alt Rock was also largely great compared to most of the crap you got in the 80s and 2000s.
Rock music is finally on the rise again thanks to bands like King Gizzard, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets etc and Neo-Psychedelia is finally returning rock to the 1970s level quality, on top of this, Hip Hop isn't even hitting top 10 charts anymore so it's likely we are going to have a rock revival in the next decade or so.

I genuinely wonder what rock music should soundlike according to rock-is-dead as if there's wasn't a bunch of wide sounding rock music out there even nowadays, I could understand a few years back when it was really being gatekept from radio in favor of fruity loops r&b garbage but not now

Rock isn't any more dead than rap today, or any music for that matter, everything in the charts sucks shit
I'm okay with listening to Metal albums, Country rock jams sessions and indie rock/pop singles, stadium rock is exactly coldplay and muse and arctic monkeys just like you mentioned, they still play the same arenas

>King Gizzard
As a non-Melbourne Australian I think they fell off massively. They had a great run of albums in the 2010s (which helped get me, zoomzoomer, into Rock and psychedelia) but they lost the magic and now just pump out quirky reddit albums every month. This happened to coincide with them turning into total fuckin fags who won’t even say “Melbourne” anymore, because the First Abos called it “Narm” (not accurate). Plus they’ll bitch and whine on social media about Palestinian trannies.

Apart from their early stuff and early Tame Impala, all modern Aussie rock bands suck shit. My reddit friends like Amyl Sniffers and that Smoko band but I can’t stand them. Basically anything played on Triple J is garbage and only enjoyed by ‘men’ who look like pic

>all modern Aussie rock bands suck shit.
might not be rock, but you have the Avalanches who are one of the best musical groups active right now imo. so there's that I guess.

indie rock is kind of seeing a revival with stuff like Black Midi, BCNR, Geese...although I'm not really a huge fan of that scene, it's alright and they're at least trying.
imo rock music missed the chance to evolve in the 2000s by embracing a marriage with electronic. Kid A should have been the blueprint for rock bands going forward. but instead the Strokes became the model, which quickly fizzled out because it was a sound based on looking backwards instead of forwards.

>>216528157
I agree grunge was a mistake but rock was pretty much dead at that point anyway. Wasn't much more to go from there on out. We got post grunge and pop punk/emo and that was it

Glam rock and hair metal killed itself in the 90s by releasing shit music. Def Lepard and Motley Crew's 80s music was and is still great compared to the shit they started releasing in the 90s.
