Has there ever been a celebrity biopic that was actually worth watching and told something valuable, in an artistically relevant way?
>>216531287Amadeus.
>>216531290not a biopic, an entirely fictionalized characterization and plot
>>216531287Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould
>>216531287Lenny (1974). It's extremely high quality and Dustin Hoffman is genuinely a better Lenny Bruce than the real Lenny Bruce.Capote, Aviator and Walk the Line are also great.
First ManThe space sequences are incredible
walk hardlove and mercyall the other ones i've seen follow the same boring formula
It should have been Sasha Baron Cohen
>>216531287I'm Not There at least has an interesting gimmick to it.
>>216531346>love and mercyThat was good. Didn't realise how much Brian Wilson got fucked over. I think they could've had Dano play young and old Brian but I guess he was basically a completely different person post-breakdown so changing the casting probably worked in its favour and Cusack did it well.
>>216531287>told something valuable, in an artistically relevant way?thats the catch 22 , since real life is more boring and random than art in order to do that you have to take artistic liberties with the persons history i.e. lie
>>216531323>Capotetrue
>>216531376>basically a completely different person post-breakdownnot only that, he was 20 years older as well so a different actor made sense
>>216531323Based Lenny enjoyer. It’s mindblowing how well he nailed the role.
>>216531407Obviously but they look completely different and also ageing up a younger actor to play an older character isn't such a hurdle. It's done in a high number of biopics.
>>216531430He's stupendous and also legitimately performs Bruce's act better than he did. His timing is flawless.
>>216531287Benson Boone is the new Freddie Mercury.
>>216531323>>216531391For me, there's no Capote without Infamous. I genuinely think you should watch both or neither. I love PSH as much as the next guy and hate Daniel Craig as much as the next guy but Toby Jones' interpretation belongs to the same stratosphere. I'd say PSH has a slight edge over Jones as Truman Capote the same way Infamous is a slightly better movie than Capote. This can mostly be attributed to the unusually strong supporting cast. Unfortunately Infamous ended up being overshadowed by Capote but I'm really curious how this things would have turned out if the release dates were reversed. And props for the Lenny recommendation, it's the best ITT so far.
la bambaand probably the buddy holly movie with gary bussy
unironically Blonde but everyone hated it for it
>>216531287'Sid and Nancy' was ok.The Bob Dylan one with different actors playing him in different phases of his life too.And I saw a Miles Davis one a long time ago and thought that was good.

i always thought biopic was pronounced rhyming like myopic
>That's not writing, that's typingI've heard exactly one line from Truman Capote and I want him to get hit by a truck.
>>216531937You're retarded but also 100% correct
>>216532276I said it that way for my entire life
>>216531287Corbijn worked as a photographer with Joy Division
>>216531287I liked The People vs. Larry Flynt a lot. Actually did h ave a good message. And the only criticism about it is women being mad about it which is usually a good sign

>>216531287yes, the johnny cash biopic
>>216531287The trouble with biopics is that people forget that it's just a movie. Pic related, for example - it was a really good movie but everyone just seethed over the dad not being depicted as a big enough asshole 'n' shit.
>>216531351They wouldn't have gotten the rights to the songs.
>>216531813Ivan was awesome because Eisenstein didn't give a rat's ass about truth or accuracy, same can be said about Amadeus and Lawrence of Arabia.
>>216531287Sid and Nancy with Gary Oldman was pretty good.

>>216531287Is there any possible way that the coming four Bealtes biopics all released on the same day will be decent?
>>216536677Define decent. Do you think Rocketman was decent?
>>216531287>nooo it doesn't count!!!lawrence of arabia was mentioned 3 times ITT
>>216536726It doesn't count cause it's not actually worth watching
>>216536714I guess decent to me means having some artistic merit and going beyond an uninspired collage of the most important biographical beats of the subject's life. >Do you think Rocketman was decent?Didn't see it, because Elton John is a fag (I'm a strict Catholic).
I'm not there seems to have aged very well.
>>216536786>artistic meritSam Mendes is a decent director I guess, but like I said in a different thread, musician biopics are uniquely cursed in which they have no choice but to please and make concessions to whoever owns the rights to the songs. I'd say to lower your expectations.
>>216531287This was pure Kino, I don't care what you say
>>216532286He invented true crime as we know it today in the way it glorifies and excuses killers. Fucked up dude.
