He isn't the best actor but at worst his role in there will be blood was a bit of a miscast. The right actor for that character should have been more believably wicked with his intentions hiding behind the church. Dano doesn't have that and should have been excluded from the casting. Dano was fantastic at the comedic groveling, the rabid worship parody, and that mud slap scene but he can't sell the malevolent part of the character. People chalked it up to being outshone by Lewis but it was definitely a miscast in an otherwise perfect movie. No Country ended up the better movie.
