In the wake of Neteyam's death, the Sully family—Jake, Neytiri, Lo'ak, Kiri, Tuk, and their adopted human son Spider—struggles with fractured bonds on Pandora. Jake relentlessly berates Lo'ak for perceived recklessness, blaming him for Neteyam's loss and forgetting essentials like comms, driving a deep wedge between father and son. Lo'ak, heartbroken over his Tulkun friend Payakan's exile, ventures alone into the dark sea on a quest to find him, while Kiri grapples with her mysterious seizures, later revealed as side effects of her origin as a clone of Grace Augustine's avatar—vaguely implied to stem from Grace's foresight, though she still views Grace as her mother. Early tension peaks when Spider, running low on oxygen, is symbiotically linked by Kiri to Pandora's forest floor mycelium (white tendrils akin to fungal networks), granting him the ability to breathe the toxic air unaided—but at the cost of his life if severed. Neytiri, already resenting Spider for endangering the family through his RDA ties, demands his death to prevent reverse-engineering this mutation, which could enable human invasion; she initially sways Jake to sacrifice him, but remorse leads her to intervene. Amid this, Colonel Quaritch, driven by vengeance for his prior "death" and a paternal fixation on reclaiming Spider (whom he genuinely loves and fights for), forges a convenient alliance—both romantic and strategic—with the ruthless Ash People leader Varang, a conqueror who scalps rival tribes. Their bond culminates in a seduction scene implying off-screen sex and a kuru neural connection, though it's pragmatic rather than deeply affectionate. Quaritch, without RDA orders, integrates the belligerent, loot-thirsty Mangkwan (Ash clan) into his forces, arming them with guns and flamethrowers.
>>
The conflict escalates when Quaritch's Mangkwan allies ambush Spider during a jungle walk with Kiri, using him as leverage to capture Jake in exchange for sparing Awa'atlu. Jake and Spider are imprisoned at Bridgehead city; Spider ingeniously escapes by unscrewing a vent with Quaritch's dog tag (gifted in a false bonding moment), while Jake is freed by a remorseful Dr. Garvin (to aid Tulkun rescue efforts) and Neytiri, who arrives for a daring extraction. The trio reunites and flees together, but Neytiri sustains wounds early, sidelining her for part of the chaos. Lo'ak, in his isolation, nearly commits suicide with a pulse rifle—interrupted when Kiri senses his intent—prompting gradual reconciliation with Jake, who finally acknowledges his son's growth. Interpersonal dynamics deepen: Jake and Neytiri bicker over parenting amid the crisis; Kiri and Spider evolve into a romantic pair, sharing a flirtatious moment where she kisses him after he laments his height, declaring him perfect (despite their quasi-sibling adoption complicating it); Lo'ak bonds platonically with Tsireya but shares no kiss. Selfridge pushes to exploit Spider's mutation for profit, clashing with General Ardmore (Edie Falco), who overrules him, while recom Lyle Wainfleet fades after early appearances. Tuk assumes a larger, delayed role in the unfolding peril, and the family confronts Neytiri's initial hostility toward Spider, which softens into eventual acceptance as one of their own.

>>
Don't know what any of this means, didn't really read it, but it seems gay and stupid
>>
The climax unfolds in a massive sea battle mirroring The Way of Water's finale but amplified with multi-faction chaos at the same site: the Sullys and Metkayina (water Na'vi) clash against RDA whalers, Scoresby's harvesters, and Quaritch's gun-toting Mangkwan, joined dynamically by vengeful Tulkun (including Payakan), swarms of new squid-like creatures, and an underwater energy vortex from a Spirit Tree missile strike. One child is taken hostage, echoing past traumas; Scoresby is drowned by a whale (possibly Payakan); Ardmore perishes as her ship is sucked into the blue vortex; Ronal falls shot in combat but births daughter Pril mid-battle, entrusting the infant to Neytiri (absent Tonowari) before dying—Neytiri safeguards her through the fray. Ao'nung (or a close Metkayina ally) is gunned down by whalers in a minor beat. Jake and Quaritch duel intensely atop a floating rock, with Spider intervening crucially; Neytiri battles Varang but is overpowered until Kiri intervenes, subduing her—yet they mercifully release Varang, who flees to rally survivors. Quaritch, redeeming slightly by saving Spider, plummets to a presumed death (body unseen, ripe for retcon). Bridgehead is raided but endures, repelling the RDA more decisively than before, though humans persist. The film closes on a poignant Eywa vision: Lo'ak and Kiri commune, entering an afterlife where deceased loved ones—Grace, Neteyam, Eytukan, Ronal—greet them warmly, evoking Titanic's ethereal farewell. No iconic eye-opening or -closing shots bookend it; Toruk and surviving whales thrive, the Sullys heal as a unit (all safe, including Pril), and lingering threads like Varang's escape and Quaritch's ambiguity tease potential sequels, delivering a conclusive yet breezy epic of chases, captures, and redemptions amid Pandora's soaring visuals.

How does this work when we have seen official clips where Quaritch, Lyle, and a captured Jake spy on the Ash People and they clearly have no fucking clue who these fucks are? IIRC Jake is also surprised as fuck to see Spider breathing with no mask. So obviously Quaritch does not contact the Ash People until after this episode lol
>>
>>216537968
Jake is captured by the RDA -> goes on recon with Quaritch -> they discover the ash people -> Quaritch cuts a deal
>>
>>216535621
What's even the point of the conflict? Like seriously it's just a repeat of Avatar 2 at this point. More kidnapping and rescue. This could've gone way better if they focused on the DMT realm which was in Avatar 1 deleted scenes and actually delved into what Eywa is.

Not a huge avatarfag but I didn't mind the theory that it's a bioengineered thing, like a film would blindside the audience by showing Pandora thousands of years in the past with the Na'vi (if they can even be called that at this stage) are like the present humans of this series. Even physically smaller too and they've devastated the planet with their antics the way Avatar humans have devastated Earth, and the bioengineered and regression was done to prevent extinction, and then they begin evolving into the physically massive cat chads we all know over countless eons. And then this is eventually imposed on Earth likewise. It would make sense given Cameron's massive treehugging sensibilities and be a big lore dump
>>
>>216538081
Ok that can be interesting but still it doesn't evoke enough excitement for me. Cameron screwed himself when he wrote Avatar 2. Why? Because he jumped the gun and had the humans comeback this early in his so called 5 movie epic. Imagine if Avatar 2 was more grounded like Navi clans fighting over territory. That'd be something unique to see instead of having the same battle setup but in water.

I don't know how much biology was put into the worldbuilding, but the first Avatar gave the impression that Eywa and all the animals in pandoria were evolved from the same primordial organism, All of them being able to plug each other with those neural tails. Eywa itself being a medusa-like fungus-like planetary brain. The fact that there was a unique fuckhuge tree growing on an unobtanium deposit made it seem like the mineral was an important nutrient to Eywa or the stuff Na'vi would eat.

Well with Avatar 2 all that biology world building stuff went into the trash, so we know it's just Cameron showcasing his favorite real world animals on CGI, since that was a whaling movie. Who knows what will show up in this one, it's probably commentary on the amazon indians, drug use and land abuse. Next film will be either about deserts or glaciers.

Bringing humans so fast really was a shit move. One would expect they will just do full scale invasion at this point. I wonder how he's done the Spider adapting to breathing alien atmosphere thing, It would make sense biologically if the fungus inoculate him with magic bacteria.
>>
>>216538020
Very based. That DMT deleted scene from Avatar 1 would have been incredible if finished and left in the movie (and also unironically has one of Jake's most important character moments in the entire movie). There are so many great cut scenes in the first movie

God, what a boring plot that advances absolutely nothing and gets nowhere. I was hoping Cameron had the balls to make Quarich the protagonist with Ash lady as his companion to take down both the coward Suly with his shitty annoying family and the greedy ignorant humans, joining the best of both worlds into the future that imbecile Jake Suly could never accomplish. Cameron is a pussy. Guck him.
