they need to come up with a separate name for media designed solely to make the audience miserable.
it drags all movies down if the audience fears a movie they're interested in will turn out to be one of these
they should be labeled. if it's a movie, they call it a movie. if it's one of these, then they call it a punishment video
and people who choose to can subject themselves to it
and everybody else can watch stuff that is trying to be good
this especially hurt the comedy genre because too many filmmakers tried to pass off excruciating situations as comedy, and the audience was trained to avoid watching all comedies.
