Pluribussy seems like a story that could have easily been told in a 90 minute movie but some retard decided to load it with filler and turn it into a boring "prestige" show
This was written and filmed as a half hour comedy. Apple freaked when Vince delivered the show because it's not funny, so they forced Vince to turn it into a prestige drama. Problem was they'd already finished filming so could only use the footage they'd already shot. The only solution was to elongate every scene in the editing to stretch things out, which led to the weird pacing issues.

A lot of the major twists in season 2 that make for good television the readers are basically already informed of for most of the 2nd book, because it jumps between different time periods, before the silos and afterwards. The direction has again been written and we already know where it's going, and the best part of the actual book series is what they saved for season 3.
