Okay, so I just spent a long long time timing a french to english translation of the 1968 Italian TV series L'Odissea (1968). It's six and a half hours long. It took me fucking forever to time the subtitles correctly, as they were originally timed for an EIGHT DISC box set. (fucking cringe).

This is by far the best adaptation of The Odyssey, and Nolan's slop won't ever come close to this.

I'm currently polishing the subtitle a bit. Would anyone be interested in me streaming it? When I'm done I'll share it with you guys too.

Be warned, it's actually a masterpiece.
>>
Post it on yt or something

I don’t know man at a certain point spectacle just gets too good to ignore. It’s why Titanic is better than A Night to Remember. If Nolan doesn’t fuck this up there’s no way it won’t be the definitive adaption.
>>
>>216597731
wait till I post this one for you. Working on it now. Might stream it tomorrow even.
>>
>>216597731
Nolan is a good director however he is awful at casting and especially dialogue.
Because it's an adaptation we can hope he won't change the dialogue too much or try to insert "comic relief".
>>
I will stream a very early rendition of the sub here. Just a bit of the film.

well, it's not a complete waste of time. As I'll upload the source file and remux file, because the font choice is horrific. But damn I probably coulda ripped the VOB from that and saved me a lot of trouble.

I'm kind of pissed.
>>
>>216598105
actually it was a waste of time. I see the MPEG4 file in there. Fuck.

it's over

His choice of subtitle font is hilariously bad for something like THE ODYSSEY. I'll at least fix that if you guys want :x
>>
>>216598082
I still appreciate your efforts, OP.
>>
>>216598178
thanks anon. well. I'm glad that other person did it first. Because it would have taken me another 100 hours to polish the subtitle. Now I'll rip his sub and fix the font and add that to my collection.

I'm still streaming it anyway.
>>
>>216597747
Of course he will. There's not much dialogue in the original.

This series isn't very good, people just say it is because it's old and European and they like to talk about how much they don't like Nolan. Seriously, I've never heard anyone recommend this on its own merits, unless making a point about the new one. At least it's better than that Armand Assante one.

Pic related is probably the best adaptation that currently exists. It's quite light and frothy but it has energy.
>>
>>216598194
I believe in you anon
>>
>>216598317
Explain to me how it isn't very good. Nobody is recommending it to you because until recently it's never been translated to english. Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion, but the 1968 odyssey is amazing.
>>
Currently on the stream.
Bumping for interest.
Keep on bringing unknown kinos to the plebs of /tv/.
I still have to watch your previous work (the Thai epic) but it's on my hard drive.
>>
>>216598194
For the love of the game!
>>
>>216598337
It's been translated, I saw it with English subs this year, don't ask me who made them though because I don't know.

I don't like it because the entire presentation is completely stilted and wooden, like most European TV productions from that era. The acting and dialogue is melodramatic as fuck, it's full of cheesy dolly shots, and every on screen action takes too long because all they have are nice sets and locations so they linger in them. The music was particularly bad, full of dated 60s fuzz bass and these repetitive loops.
>>
>>216598411
Nice anon!

For this one. I downloaded the archive. I have no idea why it's 54gb. I have a 16gb remux rip from my own DVD... It says he had the 8 disc version. Anyway, I'm gonna take his sub and hope it matches mine (mostly). Then I'll share it here with a proper font.
>>
>>216597634
Looks good from yt snippets. They're actual greeks with strong drama so no need to fight the disbelief
>>
>>216597634
Have you uploaded the srt file anywhere
>>
>>216598421
I actually enjoy the fuzz bass and riffs. It’s the same music that ended up in Roman Polanki’s Macbeth. It has a very sinister undertone, which is fitting for the dark story.
>>
>>216598473
>Have you uploaded the srt file anywhere
No I literally just finished the timing. It’s still really unpolished and terrible in many ways. This other guy’s seems to be far more polished so I’m downloading his copy and will take a look. If it’s not hard sub I can extract it and share it here for you. No worries.
>>
>>216598337
I watched this with english subs like....eight years ago maybe? I thought it was extremely good though. but yeah there has been a translation out for a while, I don't remember where or how I got it. the version I have on my PC doesn't have subs so I must have watched a stream somewhere.
>>
>>216598501
I found the origin of the translation 2 months ago. It was made in 2018 by a French guy who translated the Italian to French to English.
>>
this guy's file is mp4. Idk if I can extract the sub... let me look
>>
>>216598584
it's a MP4 hard sub because this asshole wanted to gatekeep the subtitle he has. I can maybe try to run it through subtitleedit and OCR extract it line by line based on the embedded images, but no idea if it will work. When I open it currently it says no sub found
>>
>>216597634
>Would anyone be interested in me streaming it?
Yeah I'm interested
>When I'm done I'll share it with you guys too.
Would definitely appreciate this

AI upscaled image.

hard sub

Fucking worthless. I can't even OCR the hard sub.
>>
>>216598638
Sure. I'm streaming the WIP version now. I'm going to keep working on it, because as I've discovered, the archive.org file posted above is an AI upscaled image with DNR, and is a hard-sub on a mp4 container that is impossible to OCR. Meaning, it's completely fucking useless.

>Titanic is better than A Night to Remember
No it's not. Titanic is a shitty soap opera made to fund Cameron's CIA work. The older movie was better and actually more realistic.
>>
Internet went down as the clock struck 3 am here. Not sure what the deal is but it’s time to turn in anyway. Goodnight guys. Hope you enjoyed what I streamed.

Tomorrow. A bit earlier. Probably 6 PST?
