Ground Rules:
The film has to have been made by a major/ semi-major studio, films made by nobodies with no experience and no budget dont count here.

The film has to have been at least "potentially" commercially viable, sort of echoing the first rule slightly. A film that was never intended to make a profit or had no chance dosnt count.

The film has to have involved/been made by otherwise competent people like pic related (Frank Miller).

Tldr: Shit like Manos The Hands of Fate or some shit made by a couple dudes filming in the woods dosnt count.

How can it not be this? Almost half a billion dollars spent, at least 3 reshoots, all on service of...what? Insulting the fanbase pushing a character swap that everybody hated when it was first teased 6 years ago? If anything this movie hurt the box office of Thunderbolts and F4, much better movies in their own right. And now if you Google search "Captain America" theres a good chance this movie shows up. Absolute negative for human culture.

There are a lot of modern movies that can compete with this in terms of having established fan bases, high profile actors and plenty of assets and talent at their disposal only to release garbage. That Indian jones flick is one that comes to mind. You can probably make an argument for Star Wars too? I didn’t watch any of the new ones but it seems like it’d be accurate.

I disagree. I'm trying to find a pithy way to put it, but Revenge was supposed to tie up 5 movies worth of hanging plot threads. Instead we got a wet dud.

"Ever" made is difficult as fuck, there's a lot of really, really shit movies out there. I recently watched the Bond movies back to back, and they are some of the most abyssmal movies I have ever watched, with nonsensical plots and absolutely inane dialogue. Of these, I think Goldfinger has to be the worst one of them all.
>Pussy Galore
>Exotic locations such as; "a upscale retirement hotel in Miami", and, "an abandoned farm in Kentucky"
>Main villain, the eponymous Goldfinger's dastardly plot is to...smuggle gold, which is not illegal, to horde for...no reason...so he can gather a legion of likeminded mafia bosses to infiltrate Fort Knox and...betray them all, instead iraddiating the gold with a dirty bomb which...won't affect the material value in any way, nor crash the economy like he wants.
>Assassin/Sister subplot goes nowhere and ends eruptly when she dies in the middle of the movie
>Actual 40 minute golf scene that shows nothing except both Goldfinger and Bond are terrible at golf

For more modern flicks, I have to vote Shadow Wolves (2019). Made right dead center in the writer's strike, its shows it so fucking badly. The dialogue feels like someone randomly generated action movie lines and spoke them in a random order, the conversations cannot be followed in a logical manner. I'd call it all AI generated, but it was made before the rise of LLMs. So, idk, maybe 32 seperate Indians on fiver were paid to write it piecemeal.

I'm excluding arthouse and most indie movies because I feel it's too easy to point at bad ones and also there has to be a factor of general audiences giving a shit.
Like the worst song ever made is probably something I made when I first started learning guitar at 15 but there is no reason to give any shit about that, so we look to songs that actually got released to the public and played on radio.

As OP said, "worst ever" needs some caveat. "Film has at least one semi-serious person in it" seems like a good rule.

Everyone realised already in pre-production this is a sinking ship, and first week of filming was a disaster big enough that they had to look for a new fucking lead AND director, while Brando didn't bother to show up for 2 months. They KNEW this is a failed project, and everyone made it for contractual obligation.

The joke is that if you cut out stuff Brando insisted on, you get a decent B-movie sci-fi thriller.

Artimis Fowl

You start with a really popular and surprisingly good series of children's books, dubbed "Die Hard, with fairies" by critics. You add Kenneth Branargh to direct and star in it, one of the most critically acclaimed directors and actors there is. You have the financial backing of Disney.

This is going to be this generation's Harry Potter!

Then you cast one of the best old lady actors alive, Judy Dench, to play a laye middle aged man, and... Oh, I see where this is going.

Next, why not change the main character from being a ruthless criminal mastermind in international organised crime, to being a good little boy who just wants his daddy back, thus ruining the entire point and fun of the books.

Its bad, really bad, but what makes it even worse is that if they'd have just filmed the books as is they probably would have had a Harry potter sized franchise on their hands.

This was so bad, Disney removed it from Disney + after only a few months and have never released it on bluray, thus creating instant lost media, with no way to stream or rent it legally, but being so bad nobody would want to bother pirating it.
>>
>>216622302
It's perfectly valid entry to this list due to what >>216612331 said already
I know zoomers love to pretend prequels were some sort of hidden gems, but Revenge is exactly what OP is asking for. The fact Disney's sequels exist doesn't change the fact it was a steaming turd after 20 years of anticipation, five other movies and the entire fucking franchise, too.
>>
>>216622388
Now I've got to ask:
WHICH Suicide Squad?

nta but I can understand.
I prefer watching some low budget unintentionally fun b movie over some big budget pos that thousands of people agreed on making bland or bad to chase the lowest common denominator while wasting hundreds of millions.
The B movie is shit because it's made by amateurs in someone's backyard, that doesn't offend my brain, but the big budget pop corn movie has no business being shit or sub par or badly written or boring with all those resources put together
And sometimes you stumble on a shitty movie that actually has a spark of creativity, if not genius, or shows a lot of effort, despite the rest. And when it happens I'm left satisfied as a movie lover.

For example I would never touch an Avatar movie with a 9ft long clown pole, but for example yesterday I've seen One Million Years B.C. (1966), and yes it was a silly movie, BUT it had a cast mostly comprised by turbo hot people and, more importantly, the best stop motion effects, dinos and battles I've ever seen. Don't even remember the name but there was some insanely jewish netflix film where some porn crew go to some barn to shoot and there was something sinister about the old lady who owned the farm. Mainly it was a 100% israel funded kikeshit about christian girls being blacked with a film lazily stapled on. Didn't finish it.

The Spirit was absolute kino.

I honestly wonder how Americans failed to get this movie, it's blatantly making fun of a hundred archetypes and comic tropes and film stereotypes.
>>
>>216623124
You expect sin city not half a comedy
>>
>>216623124
the thing about comedy movies is that when you make a comedy movie the jokes that you put in the comedy movie have to be funny.
>>
>>216623134
That's on you, the movie was a parody from minute 1.
>>
>>216623194
I figured that out the second watch so it's definitely not the worst film made
>>
>>216623124
>it was supposed to be bad

Worst take possible. A good parody takes something you love and show its absurdity in a fun way. You can't film a pile of dog shit drying in the sun and say it's a clever parody of the current state of affairs and expect people to like it. It's still shit.
>>
>>216611200
it's shit in a very, very endearing way
>>
>>216623169
Satire is a subtler form of comedy anon, you don't get Big Bang Theory characters spelling out the jokes with a fake laugh in the background.
Either you get what it's making fun of and why it's funny, or you don't

There are awful sequels where they recast and it's horrible, like Son of the Mask, and there are sequels where the budget is gone and it's direct-to-video trash...
And then there are sequels where you have the actors return, the budget is roughly the same, and you completely fail at the entire premise of the movie.

Idk if it meets your criteria but War of The Worlds 2025 has to be the worst thing ever called a movie

Honorable mention to that renfield movie, but it at least had fun gore which puts it above newark. At least shit like battlefield earth is funny bad, there is nothing entertaining whatsoever to be gleamed from this piece of shit

I despise the troon who plays Flash and I hope that one day he trips on stairs, but I thought that this wasn't bad as comic book movie, if it was a bit more polished.
It did get belly laugh out of me when Flash tried to run, but Snyder's speedforce no longer worked, so he just flailed like faggot.

>>
My worst film ever, largely because of how difficult it was to follow what was happening.
>90% of the film is set in pitch blackness with no/little lighting
>90% of the film is set in a storm
>intense close-ups
>constant shaky cam
>literally dozens of named characters who all look the same

Completely incomprehensible for its entire run-time and not in a fun way.
>>
>>216623873
No, it has nothing to do with the comic besides character names. Spirit is from Will Eisner, the fun of it is his pen and ink drawings, the acting of the characters, it's lukewarm, silly, sometimes dramatic. The Spirit movie is a pseudo-Sin City spin off, directed by Frank Miller, this red and black aesthetic has nothing to do with it whatsoever.

I’m pushing 40, and have see. A lot of shit. But nothing felt like it was actively insulting me as a viewer like Lady in the Water. From shamalam’s self-insert who will change the world in the future as a result of his words and writings, only to die for them (having zero relevance to the plot), to the smarmy film-critic stand in that gets killed as a middle finger to the audience. From the waste of Paul galati and the horrendous grass wolf creature to the tree monkey saviors. Everything about it is utter trash, while also having that air of smarmy bullshit of M. night with his head firmly up his ass. It is void of acting charisma in any sense, hell it’s void of sense entirely. I saw it in theaters and almost 20 years later I’m still mad I paid money to subject myself to it.

Nothing I’ve seen in the thread so far touches the absolute garbage (from a big studio) of Lady in the Water.

While I am constantly upset by what has continually been done to the Alien "franchise" there is, sadly, good stuff hidden in there, or openly there with David

I don't think it follows OP rules, it isnt really a major studio film and it definitely isn't made to commercially viable.

Howard the Duck is a great sci fi adventure and for the life of me I will never understan how it's supposed to be bad.
It's not strutturally broken in any way, it has good cast, good ideas, good concepts and effect.
I swear people who say that it's a bad movie or even the worst just haven't seen it.

Surprised no one has posted this. This if anything is an INSULT to the source material. Even if you knew nothing about the animated series the acting and pacing is just so weird. The whole thing seems so off and crammed. Some of the cgi is okay though, so I won't say everything is bad about this movie.
Ironic thing is that I've seen this movie more times than other bad movies thinking "maybe it wasn't that bad" or "there's gotta be something I like".
>>
>>216626112
bc we know that the director got fucked by a billionaire and while its awful, there are better suggestions ITT, or a movie that serves as a literal advertisement under the guise of childrens film like Mac and Me. Your film is just supremely bad casting and interference in the filmmaking process. Others are tainted from the core

>never intended to make a profit or had no chance dosnt count
If they believed that they wouldnt put money up for Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. You dont put a 30 million dollar race car on track if you think it's going to explode halfway through the race. The studio obviously believed in the project or it would never have been made in the first place. Just because it became a shitshow halfway through doesnt disqualify it.
