Technically (back-projection, etc) it's really sloppy, even given the standards of the time.Hitchcock is best with something like Psycho, which is basically just saying "BOO!" and not trying to be anything more. Or his early stuff (Shadow of a Doubt, Rebecca) when he had less power and couldn't be so self-indulgent.

And it just obliterated everyone else at the Oscars. I saw it eventually before it left theaters and it was thrilling and good, but some of the romance stuff was just cringe. It went over the top as much as it could. Like Magnolia did.

Titanic as an actual story is very by-the-book and borderline comical at the times but the movie is so full of sovl that you can allow it.Very similar to Top Gun. You remove the sovl out of Top Gun and you're just left with the unwatchable shallow zogslop sequel.

It was a waste of time, a boring movie where you have to hear 3 times what happened and just in case you aren't smart enough, they named the act 3 as "the truth". I can't even find a single reason to recommend this movie to anyone, acting, plotline, costumes, choreography for the last scene, dull colours, everything is terrible. It's so hard to believe that Ridley Scott, the man who directed Alien and Blade Runner, stoop so low as... this. At least for me, the Gladiator 2 with sharks in the Colosseum didn't came out of nowhere.
