the fifth Beatle was an African-American named Billy Preston. He was a great producer and he was one Zesty Buck that was "on tha downlow" until he died.

On his days off he liked to kidnap illegal immigrants and force them to smoke crack and have gay sex with him.

>While on probation for a drunk driving conviction in August 1991,[26] Preston was arrested for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old Mexican boy, after picking him up at a gathering point for day laborers.[27] The boy told authorities that Preston took him to his Malibu home, smoked cocaine, showed him pornographic pictures and tried to assault him before he escaped.[28] Preston was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon involving a man he picked up to do work at his home, the day before his arrest in the case involving the boy.[28] After submitting to a drug test, Preston tested positive for cocaine. He entered no-contest pleas to the cocaine and assault charges. The sex charges which included misdemeanor charges of child molestation and exhibiting pornographic material to a minor were dismissed.[28] He was sentenced to nine months at a drug rehabilitation center and three months of house arrest.[2]

>John Lennon, by this point infatuated by Yoko Ono and addicted to heroin, hated working on ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’. According to engineer Geoff Emerick, Lennon "openly and vocally detested" the song, calling it “more of Paul's granny shit”. McCartney’s insistence in re-recording the song a number of times with different arrangements didn’t help matters, and the process contributed to the fraught atmosphere that dominated many of the White Album sessions.
>Lennon had grown tired of recording the song. He reportedly came into the studio under the influence of drugs, sat down at the piano and banged out the introduction on the keys. According to engineer Richard Lush "John Lennon came to the session really stoned, totally out of it on something or other, and he said, ‘All right, we’re gonna do ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’. He went straight to the piano and smashed the keys with an almighty amount of volume, twice the speed of how they’d done it before, and said, ‘This is it! Come on!’ He was really aggravated. That was the version they ended up using."

But John was the kind of cool that you respect when you're young but that grows a bit grating as you get older. >A traumatic incident, which reportedly affected Preston deeply, occurred in the early 1970s, while he was engaged to actress and model Kathy Silva. At this time Preston had become close friends with musician Sly Stone, and made many contributions to Stone's recordings of the period (including the album There's a Riot Goin' On). According to Moore, Preston was devastated when he came home one day to find Stone in bed with Silva (who later married Stone on stage at Madison Square Garden). According to Moore, Silva's affair with Stone was the trigger that led Preston to stop having relationships with women. It was after this incident that he began using cocaine and having sex with men

You are a classic example of how racism obscures history.

This is a retarded memepost specifically because it was never the fans who started doing this, it was the artists themselves.

The Rolling Stones in particular were very public about their blues influences. They hired the guys they liked, like Muddy Waters, and toured with them to expose them to their retarded, ignorant audiences.
The Stones basically revived Chess records doing this. And if anybody was going to give you a lecture about "Jigaboo Jackson" as it pertains to Led Zeppelin, it would probably be Jimmy Page himself.

Keith Richards in particular was fanatical about getting his old blues influences paying gigs/having them cut new albums and produce new material again.
>>
>>216661405
I bet you don't even know who Terry Kath is, which is my point, black people are deliberately ignorant of white musicians who preceded black musicians, but they'll never hold a black musician to the same standard, because they'll always vote inside their own race, whereas white people tend to vote in terms of global credibility. You'll never listen to me for the same reason that you're black.

Well, Terry Kath is a pretty weak argument because Hendrix was already playing like that before the story where he met Kath.

There are much larger oversights as far as white artists and their contributions to black music, like pic related who is as important to American blues/r&b as any black artist who ever lived.
Jimmie Rodgers stands at the crossroads between blues, country, r&b, and gospel.

>playing like Kath
not even close, he diluted Kath's radical freeform guitar aesthetic and put it in a blues format. Absolutely no one in the world was playing like Kath. He is unheard of for a reason because he invented something which was stolen, Hendrix's whole deal was that he could distort the guitar to modernist heights, but Kath had already done that live countless times before, Jimi was just the one they recorded.
What Jimmy Page did means nothing to me because he DID steal from black players, but Jimi Hendrix did steal Kath's concept and black people'll never admit this.
Hendrix is like the sacred cow to black people because they are racist and demand that a black blues player be on top

Anon, don't get offended by this but you sound like a giant fucking pleb. Hendrix himself is woefully overrated, as is Kath -- they're both horribly one-dimensional as guitarists. Hendrix, however, had a much more prolific creative career in a much more condensed period, whereas Kath was stuck in Chicago making soft-rock shit through the mid 70s. Kath himself would never say he was better than anyone because he wasn't a retard like you, troubled and gun crazy though he was.
Jimmy Page, also woefully overrated. His playing was so sloppy, all speed, no substance.

Peter Green is the best blues guitarist of the late 60s/early 70s and his work in Fleetwood Mac is unparalleled. As BB King said, "he's the only one who gives me the cold sweats." Broaden your horizons and listen to more music.
>>
>>216661728
just because Kath was chained to a soft-rock band doesn't make him any less of an innovative guitarist, besides Peter Green made his best work out of Fleetwood Mac so you can't really believe this is indicative of a guitarists' quality.
>>
Terry Kath is also a very inconsistent live performer due to being drunk 90% of the time. Most of his solos, even on 25 or 6 to 4 are a complete fucking mess. Even Hendrix who was doing full blown LSD trips on stage was less sloppy with his performing.

Also, Hendrix did stuff like playing Sgt Pepper for Paul McCartney at a show like 3 days after the album came out, having learned most of the tracks by ear.
Terry Kath was in fucking Chicago. He never left. He never tried to make the band mean more, or to play other types of more experimental, creative music.
>>216661780
>besides Peter Green made his best work out of Fleetwood Mac
Good lord, what a terrible opinion. I can tell immediately that you haven't listened to a lot of Green's stuff. For years, the story on Green was "how the hell did he forget how to play after leaving Fleetwood Mac" because he had a total drug freakout and basically lost most of his abilities, didn't even play on stage again for near on a decade and his solo stuff was very much diminished from his old talent thanks to the 'bad acid' he took.

Beatlemania completely slaughtered rock journalism, every week you'll see a rock magazine with a new cover and it's just another 50 pages about The Beatles/Pink Floyd/Zeppelin/Queen/Springsteen/Dylan, occasionally it'll be a Britpop band, but we're never going to ever move on until the boomers die.
Maybe rock magazines'll just die off completely because no zoomer or gen alpha is ever going to willingly pay money to read about rock anymore, it's sad really, but I think it deserves to die, I'm sick of seeing David Gilmour's smug aging face.
"I just sold my catalogue for billions."
It's sad, in a just world we would've just said, "no, we're not going to talk about them anymore, only bands that are realising new material."
But to the boomers these people are Jesus and for 3,000 years and more all we'll ever here about is these same stories over and over.

I agree but you said I was "very poor" so it didn't make a whole lot of sense when I've spent way too much money on this shit over the years. I make good money selling pedals now and could make even more restoring amps if I had the inclination but my real job keeps me too busy.

Only the poor carpenter blames his tools

Reminder that shredding has nothing to do with how many guitars you own. Rory had one, Brian May had one.

Holy fucking shit every once in a while a zoomer is just a goddamned superstar when it comes to being wrong. >>216661661
>Hendrix is like the sacred cow to black people because they are racist and demand that a black blues player be on top

lol retard darling winter child… please allow yourself to be educated…

Hendrix was never popular with black people. Not now not ever. He was very popular with white people due to the fact he played white rock music with white people.

Michael Jackson was 10,000x more popular with black people. Same for Al Green. And Marvin Gaye. And every single major black artist.

Hendrix was viewed as a white guy thing.

NTA, it just doesn't mean much, Jack White played a guitar made out of plastic and sold hit records and revitalised an entire sound. That's not to say that a great guitar is bad but guitar nerds are really head in the sand with IKEA syndrome.
>>
>>216662759
You're a fucking moron. Both Brian May and Rory Gallagher own WAY MORE than one guitar. Just because they have a favorite they usually play is not the same thing. I'm pretty sure I've even seen a Youtube video about Brian May's collection.
>>
>>216662777
>Hendrix isn't beloved by black people
>>
>>216662791
If I cared what was popular and made hit records I'd be calling this a bunch of old unc wypipo shit and telling you to discuss bleep bloop nog music.

What sounds good sounds good and better equipment sounds good. Is it going to turn a shit player into a good player? No, of course not.

I'm not English but the only thing cursed about the north of England is that it is doomed to ever be attached to the rest of the fucking place, it feels like an actual real place unlike the south and the midlands

This applies to many. I would be no blacks under 50 have any idea about who Charlie Parker, or Oscar Peterson are. Hell, they probably dont even know about Louis Armstrong

"When We Was Fab" is a fantastic song.

But I'm partial to the Traveling Wilburys myself.

Didn't he land on the moon? I didn't know he had a music career?
>>
>>216662950
tbf he's more famous for burning his guitars and cutting acid into his forehead, I don't think that many people besides boomer's think about him a lot, rock music in general is like that now, he's just there so that boomers can pretend they saw him at Woodstock (they didn't)

In fact, the Beatles and Floyd were in adjacent studios during the recording of Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and they'd occasionally pop in and hear what the others were working on and offer suggestions.

Listen to the Red and Blue compilation albums. It does a good job documenting their progression from simple boy band to legendary musicians that started new musical trends with every album they released.

They were trying to force Ringo to get a black wife

Let it Be may have killed the band, but Abbey Road was their last hurrah.

He didnt want to marry Billy Preston?

He did not. Ringo was a good scouse lad, didn't go in for any of these backdoor shenanigans.
>>
>>216663145
The 'boy band' stuff is world class shit as well. They're the tightest live band in the world after all those shows in Hamburg and continue to be through to '66 really, despite all the screaming fans ruining the performances.
>>
>>216660982
>some of these places get 'city of culture' and it is a bad joke
Kek, no it isn't, it's a superb joke and almost certainly deliberate, nothing the Westminster boys like more than 'avin' a half and half with the good and bads at the expense of the norf.
>>
>>216663252
I think if they never made Abbey Road their reputation would be of a band that no one would've cared if they continued or not, Let It Be is so bad

This must have been so fucking annoying, you hone your craft to an unrivalled peak and then a bunch of shrieking harpies you don't even want to lay fuck all your shows up with their femcel noises.

Keith Richards fucking hates that they did Their Satanic so I've heard which makes sense because even more than their post-Exile albums it makes them look lazy in a bad way.

Terry Kath does the best guitar solo EVER on 25 or 6 to 4. Fight me.

Nah, the best guitar solos of the 70s are all on Steely Dan tracks. Kid Charlemagne, Change of the Guard, etc.

Obli-Da might be the most skippable song of any song produced by a popular band ever I genuinely enjoy Mother by the Police
>>
>>216651252
Just search The Beatles on yt. Pick a few songs. The reason they're remembered now is because of the high lasting quality of their music. They sound like standards now or part of contemporary rock. Timeless. You can listen to If I Fell or Eleanor Rigby or With A Little Help of My Friends or Get Back or dozens of other examples and can hear both stellar songs on their own but also probably parts of the music that sound familiar, mostly because every popular musical artist since them were influenced by them. Just check them out in general, good stuff.

>>216663445
Not even the most skippable Beatles song, that's Revolution no 9
>>
>>216662557
It would help if there was a single song made after 1999 that is worth listening to. Zoomers want to bitch and moan and then their contributing is Sabrina bobblehead Carpenter.

Yeah, I remember reading that they couldn't hear their amps over the screaming, so they'd do a shitty out of tune 20-minute set to get the hell off the stage as soon as possible. Nobody complained because no one could hear them anyway. This is primarily why they stopped touring in '66. They also wanted to experiment with more music that couldn't be played live.

Ringo is the quintessence of what made the Beatles a rock band rather than a boy band and he proves it every day.

How could anyone hate Ringo? He's completely inoffensive

Paul and George went to that school for free because they were clever kids from solid working class families. In the 50s if you passed an exam you could go to a grammar school, no matter what your background.

not a high bar for boomers to be cool, a lot of them are just smug bastards who lucked into the most fluorishing economy the world has ever seen, Ringo and George managed to dial it back though. I think George even regretted being that famous at one point.
