Why are all these big directors complaining about audiences watching movies on tablets or laptops my most marking and beloved watches were me laying down on the sofa with a blanket and a hot laptop sitting on my chest watching the Sopranos or twin peaks. Can't get more intimate than that. With a drink at handand earphones it goes straight to your heart.

Instances of such complaints:

1. Christopher Nolan: The archetype of this position. He is a staunch advocate for the theatrical experience, specifically on film stock and in IMAX. He believes his films are meticulously crafted for the scale, sound, and immersion of a cinema, and that watching on a laptop, tablet, or even a TV is a fundamentally compromised experience. He's famously said, "If you make a film for the cinema, it’s not the same experience on an iPad... it’s a different medium."
2. Denis Villeneuve: Has been very outspoken, especially regarding his film Dune. He said watching a movie on an iPhone is like "driving a speedboat in your bathtub." He argues that the epic scale and sonic detail of his films are designed for a collective, large-format experience and lose their power and intention on a small device.
3. Quentin Tarantino: A well-known cinephile who owns his own theater (the New Beverly). He has long criticized the "digital projection" era and the habit of watching films at home. He finds the idea of watching a movie on a phone particularly abhorrent, once calling it "insulting" and saying the "viewer is not accepting the film as the filmmaker intended."
4. David Lynch: One of the earliest and most direct critics. In a famous 2007 interview, he bluntly stated: "If you're watching the movie on a telephone, you will never in a trillion years experience the film... You'll think you have experienced it, but you'll be cheated." He emphasized that the size and quality matter deeply.
5. Martin Scorsese: While appreciative of the accessibility streaming provides, he consistently champions the "sacred space of the cinema." He writes essays and gives interviews about the importance of communal viewing and the loss of detail and focus when watching at home on small screens, surrounded by distraction.

6. James Cameron: The king of technological spectacle. For films like Avatar: The Way of Water, he is unequivocal that the intended experience is in 3D on the largest screen possible (preferably IMAX or Dolby Cinema). He sees smaller-screen viewing as a pale imitation, though he acknowledges its role in accessibility for repeat viewings.
7. Ridley Scott: In a colorful rant, he dismissed the importance of Millennial audiences by saying, "Their attention span is so narrow because they’re conditioned by that little fucking device in their hand." While not solely about screens, it underscores his belief that the phone/tablet culture is antithetical to immersive film-watching.
8. Aaron Sorkin: During the pandemic release of The Trial of the Chicago 7, he expressed disappointment, saying, "I want you to see it in a theater with an audience... There’s a communal experience that’s important."

>NOOOOOO YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT ON A HUGE SCREEN THAT YOU ONLY SEE FROM THE SIDE WITH PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW AROUND YOU INCLUDING NIGGERS THAT ARE EXTREMELY RUDE AND NOISY. YOU AHVE TO GET OUT OF YOUR HOUS AND ALL THE WAY TO THE THEATER AND ARRIVE AT A SPECIFIC TIME AND PLAN DAYS IN ADVANCE TO BOOK YOUR TICKET BECAUSE UH BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT MY EGO DICTATES

David lynch made that criticism in like 2010 but he eventually caved and made twin peaks season 3 for streaming

I don't really get this meme either
me alone in my room with all the lights off watching a movie on a big monitor right in front of my face with headphones on is often a way better experience than any non-empty theater
perfect vantage point and the screen is (relatively) larger if anything, still great quality picture (no risk of dirty screen, projector fuckup, reflected dim safety lamps), no retards eating popcorn or talking or anything, the direct unencumbered experience

idk man, there's just something about modern theaters that drives people away, something these big directors seem oblivious to.

After a hot and steamy session in bed, bring over the HDMI cable and laptop for some Sopranos or Twin Peaks. Many such cases..
