Commander, tell me about your sexual organs.
Aside from the lead acting like she's in a Tyler Perry movie, this show isnt bad. Its surprisingly really good at times, especially the parts with the Klingons.
>>216804748i couldn't get past 3 episodes of this. I wasn't even a huge fan back then, I had only seen TNG
>>216804745unappreciated
>>216804779Some of the characters mellow out after the first half dozen episodes and it gets a bit better, but I can understand why someone would give it up early. I like it but there's plenty of parts that require a strong stomach to handle.
I wouldn't say anything. I would listen they had to say on the Rules of Acquisition. And thats what no one did.
>>216804843I tried to watch it and season 2 made me sick. I threw in the towel. It's a horrible show.

Wish Voyager had more episodes with reoccurring crewmen as guest characters. With only 150ish people onboard, it feels like a wasted opportunity that we don't get more info on the rest of Voyager's crew outside the main cast. That season six episode where some former crewman who died comes back as an alien and hangs out with Harry was such a load of shit because of that.
>>216805196Skip all Lwaxana episodes, and all Wesley episodes except "The First Duty" (where he gets in legal trouble) and "Journey's End" (where he gets kicked out of Starfleet for being a putz).
>>216806727I just want the Delaney twins to come back.
>>216805342What was wrong with "Time's Arrow"? I liked that episode!
>>216806917Lwaxana episodes are overhated, though admittedly there's a couple of really bad ones. Cost of Living is one of the most annoying Trek episodes ever and I wont pretend that it isn't.Half a Life is legit really good though and you should not skip it. I also like Mege a Troi despite it being stupid as fuck, it is a fun episode and I like Ferenghi episodes for the most part. Her first 2 DS9 episodes are quite good too.

Time to resume the Lower Decks watchalong! Today we're doing episode 102, "Envoys".Catch up at https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/search/tnum/216789193/filename/STLD/order/asc/...walking! Yes, walking! Did you know there's a magazine called "Walking"? The first one was first published in the 1980s, and now there are several. So what's it like when it arrives in the mail? "Wow, look, anon! The new 'Walking' is here! Hey, here's a good article: 'Putting one foot in front of the other'!" But apparently, Section 31 walks like this, so maybe there's something to it. After all, this is Star Trek!
Boimler sure isn't having an easy time of it, is he? First he almost gets knifed by a food vendor, then he knocks another alien's food on the ground! How is he going to get out of this one?
Here's a helpful hit for anyone trying to speak a foreign language to a native... make sure you actually know what you're doing, or you could make things a whole lot worse. Now it's Boimler's turn to be overconfident, and it works out for him about as well as it traditionally does for Mariner. That is to say, not at all.
That clever, and dishonest, Mariner! She steals the alien's moneybag, then pretends to throw it! He drops Boimler to run after it! Not very in line with the Star Trek ethos, but when the alternative is getting crushed to death, can you blame them? Score one for Mariner's blatant disregard for ethics, the rules, and defensible standards of conduct!
Here's Rutherford, trying out for the command track! Ransom sets him up with the intermediate bridge simulation. Rutherford somehow manages to blow up the ship within 13 seconds! That's gotta be a new kind of record. I don't think you even fail with a score that low... probably just get an "incomplete".
After that disaster, Rutherford gets set up with the beginner's bridge simulation. Then they collide with an asteroid, and he manages to get all the kids on the ship ejected into space. Just look at all the dots on the scanner! Each one, a child's life that's been snuffed short! Who says Lower Decks is just a comedy? It's as gritty as any other Star Trek show! Maybe more so! When else in Star Trek have so many children died at once?
Ah, here we are in Little Risa on Tulgana IV. You know, Risa, where the natives apparently let random tourists have their way with them. Given that there's no money in the Federation, what does that say about the Risans? Do they do this out of the goodness of their heart? I want to believe Star Trek depicts a utopia, but let's face it, there's no reasonable explanation for this major plot hole. But wait! The girl in red is a lizard-like alien that wants to implant her eggs in his throat! Finally, a giant outpoint in Star Trek is explained sufficiently. Tourists go to Risa, get intimate with the natives, and end up infested with horrors! Kudos to Lower Decks for finally fixing this glaring problem.
Here we see Rutherford trying out for the medical division. Even better, he'd get to work every day with the luscious (slurp! slurp!) Tendi! It's like the old saying goes, have a cute Orion pixie for a co-worker and you'll never work a day in your life. Except he seems to have some trouble with "bedside manner". Oh well, I guess that's another failure under Rutherford's belt! And he was so close to being by Tendi's side all day. Where is he going to go next?
Well, that was fast... here's Rutherford, trying out for security! Wow, that's a lot of Borg to throw against him! But it seems he has a gift for slaughter. Even Shaxs is impressed! That's right, Shaxs, the Bajoran who has a long history with the resistance against Cardassian occupation. If you're interested in learning more, you can... watch all of Deep Space 9. Or you can just assume his experience is typical of a resistance fighter no matter what the setting, and let him continue to be a minor character in a show that focuses on the lower decks. Your choice.
Boimler and Mariner spot an old man getting mugged! Boimler, book smart as always, tries to intervene, only to discover the "old man" was really a shape-shifting thief. That starts a brawl, and... well... Boimler doesn't seem to be faring very well. How will Mariner get them out of this mess?
Oh, I just can't help wanting to watch Boimler get wailed on some more. How about you?
You gotta admire the Hollywood screenwriter's cognitive dissonance—they claim to hate guns and want to ban them in real life, but they literally have no idea how to solve plot problems without them. Plus, Mariner's solution to the brawl is to buy everyone a bunch of alcohol. So much for the moneyless utopia! But I don't blame Mariner... she's doing her best in a world that contradicts itself. Despite the gaping plot hole, and the blatant hypocrisy, she still solves problems. Just one more reason Lower Decks is a great show!
And now, everyone loves Mariner, they ignore Boimler after beating the snot out of him, and now he's given up and skulked away to an alley. In addition, somewhere, a drunk Klingon general is presumably flying their shuttle around, slamming into things. How will they dig themselves out of this hole? And why are his pants pulled down to his ankles? What exactly happened during the cutaway?
Boimler looks pretty down... enough to horrify Mariner, enough to make him cry, and enough for him to announce his intention to resign from Starfleet by throwing away his comm badge. My heart is simply breaking at this point! Something better happen quick to make this better!
Moments after Shaxs announces Rutherford joining Security, Rutherford says he wants to go back to Engineering! Fortunately, Shaxs is a fantasy boss & doesn't immediately fire Rutherford. That's a little too much future-utopia for me for one day.
As Boimler and Mariner walk through a sylvan park, they get confronted by a shifty Ferengi! Mariner thinks they can trust him, but Boimler doesn't, and the Ferengi pulls a knife on them! Fortunately, Boimler saves the day by... shooting the knife out of the assailant's hand? OK, I can't fault Lower Decks specifically for this one... this is a lazy Hollywood hack trope. I wish they would just be honest about guns, but they appear incapable of it. Let's just move on.
Boimler enjoys his victory over Mariner, finds the shuttle, then they find the Klingon general passed out inside! Two steps forward, one step back. Kinda makes you wonder how Klingons managed to conquer anything.
Apparently, sexual harassment is still OK in the future, if you're a Klingon general. Some utopia. Let's move on.
Boimler is NOT letting Mariner off easy for the incident with the Ferengi! She leaves, seemingly humiliated... or is she? Turns out she set up the Ferengi encounter to boost Boimler's self-esteem! She and this Ferengi go way back. What a wonderful thing she did for a co-worker who was down in spirits! She truly shows leadership skills, and is exemplary of the best Trek has to offer.
And, for an even happier ending... Rutherford finds himself curled up with Tendi, in a cramped Jefferies tube. Well played, Rutherford. Well played. You're making us all proud. And that's the watchthrough! Join us next time when we do... episode 103! And as for the rest of you... don't forget to seethe about nuTrek! I'm not concerned... I know you will.
