>countless iconic characters
>quotable lines in just about every single scene
>commentary on race, psychology, america, sexuality, addiction, depression, marriage, ect. that hold up to this day
>every joke lands extremely well
>funnier than most comedies, more dramatic than most dramas
>profound philosophy
>relatable
>still relevant over a decade after its ended without any spinoffs or reboots
literally no other show you could say this about other than the sopranos. you can't name one

besides tony and (maybe) paulie, what sopranos characters does the average person know?

Get a job and stop posting shit like this, man. It's just a stupid fucking TV show. Get a grip on your life, dude. You're near or over 30 years old, jobless and THIS is what's on the forefront of your mind? Jesus fucking christ. Loser.

The way most of the characters say the name christopher is quite memorable to people with most american accents.

No, there was occasional laughs but it was a bit of a downer. People who've seen the show through YouTube clips say that.

Twilight Zone

I wouldn't consider sopranos a dark comedy as its one and only genre but it consistently had hilarious jokes. Enough to where the whole show wasn't dark and depressing

I don't want to shit on the show, I mean I liked it, but it's really not a masterpiece. It has some highs, some great quotes and scenes, but that's largely because there's like 200 hours of fucking screentime to choose from.

The vast majority of the show's runtime is repetitive and mundane nihilism. It really shouldn't be in the conversation with tightly written cinematic masterpieces that convey much more powerful messages and more interesting characters in a fraction of the time.

To be honest, being realistic, it's easy. I don't think the sopranos deserves as much praise for that as it gets. Tony shitting his guts out after some bad takeout is not a "daring masterpiece".
>>
>>216806055
Mad Men is better
>>
>>216806232
the fundamental anxiety of all the characters right there. they know time is running out on their game. the glory days are over and now it's just a gradual decline and either death from infighting in the mob or prison.
>>
AJ didn't predict a generation of men. He had a wife, money, good job, car, house. He played football, had a relationship with family, friends. With better parents he would just be a straight up chad.
>>
>>216806561
>just watched YouTube clips
>>
Nothing else comes close. I don't even watch other TV anymore, I just rewatch the Sopranos on a loop

and yeah, it completely sucked admitting to myself I shared a lot in common with AJ. Great character.

>Paulie said he wants it known its on him, he takes full responsibility, but that he didn't do nothing.
>>
>>216806055
>I'm alive, I'm surviving
Fucking great line. Rubberbands the scene back to cynical reality from Christopher's faggy sulking.
>>
quick rundown on AJ? it's been a while since I watched the show.
>>
>>216806055
this show was excellent in spite of its creator lmao, chase is a hack and the writers really deserve more credits
>>
>>216806561
>I wouldn't consider sopranos a dark comedy
All the scenes with Paulie and Christopher either fucking up killing someone or killing someone accidentally after some serious major plot point pretty much sums up the entire show.
>>
>>216806695
He's a dumb kid that imbibes a lot of the darkness and depression that Livia and Tony put out, and crudely wields this worldview as a tool to manipulate his way out of trouble. Like Meadow but dumber. Emptiness rages inside him, but he has no strong moral character to pull it together, so by the end of the show he's just as angry, empty, and self-serving as ever. Hate how much i relate to him.
>>
>>216806503
my man. Twilight Zone watchers know this. Rod Serling was a good man
>>
>>216806756
>Meadow but dumber
It's more that him and Meadow represent two sides of the same coin, with one representing the masculine and the other the feminine regarding the upbringing they received.
>>

>wants to play video games despite his dad thinking its a waste of time
>gets into internet porn
>goes on forums and laughs at posts in his underwear
>thinks everyone else is "asleep" and that he's a true redpilled thinker
>gets destroyed by a girl he wasn't even seeing for that long
>depression is intensified by politics and keeping up with world events
>tries to commit suicide, immediately regrets it
>gets retarded ideas about joining the military, protecting the environment and so on

Stuck in the awkward limbo where you're cognizant enough to realize you're a terrible human being, but not strong enough to reform yourself.

Many such cases.
>>
>>216806055
All of these apply to Mad Men
All of these except the spinoff one apply to BB and BCS
All of these apply to The Shield, but that show is severely under appreciated and most people have never heard of it

Silvio, Phil, Carmela, Janice (the best portrayal of a woman ever recorded) and Johnny Sack.

Nah he just represented a generation, same as Meadow.
>>
>>216806695
He's Tony but instead of being a depressed criminal he's a depressed slacker.

Livia is iconic as well. My mom still references her to this day, and she doesn’t even really like the Sopranos and hasn’t seen an episode in like 20 years
>>
>>216806055
It's just a badly written show for retards.
>>
>>216806772
Much like how Janice and Tony represent two sides of their respective coin. Domineering manipulators and users with one using masculine force and threats of violence while the other uses feminine wiles and influence.

>it's really not a masterpiece
What would you consider a masterpiece then?
I hope you have at least the decency to not classify Breaking Bad or Mad Men or hell, even True Detective as one, since Sopranos apparently doesn't deserve such a qualification.

The Americans, Twin Peaks (the parts of the original done by Lynch as well as the retvrn), Miami Vice, Chernobyl, Twilight Zone.
I'd consider Sopranos among them or just a notch below along with S1 of TD.

The Many Cucks of Newark. Reminds me that Tony's daughter gets with a mulatto, only peripherally related but Scorsese had an entire bit in one of his films about a character being cucked by a nigger too.

White Americans debasement themselves and live in fear of their former pets. Why?

That show tried SO hard to be the new Sopranos that if you watch both you'll be thinking "why am I watching this and not Sopranos instead?" every second.
>>216807108

First 3 seasons are flawed, but they get better during rewatches. Season 4 onwards pisses on any series Vince Gilligan has pulled out.

AJ is a great character but he really bothers me personally because he reminds me so much of my old coworker its unreal.
He's also a pale-skinned Italian guy with a round muscular build who dresses up in douchey 00s nu-metal/bling fashion, and he ended up with my ex-gf at my suggestion after I broke up and lives a very happy life together with her.
It feels bad man.
>>
>>216807471
Mad men is actually well acted, well written and the humor isn’t just ”look how stupid Italians are” though.
