JAMES CAMERON MAGICALLY SUMMONING 30 BILLION UNNAMED AVATAR DICKRIDERS TO MAKE AVATAR 3 THE HIGHEST GROSSING FILM OF ALL TIME
>>
>>216830577
It was supposed to be a documentary.
>>
20 years from now something will come out showing the blatant rigging of viewership numbers for these films

3 billies

I saw it in Osaka on Monday and I was pretty shocked at how full the theater was.

30 % drop means it won't hit 2 billies, sorry but 88 million + 62 million is still not 2 billion...

It's DOA in Japan
>>
>>216830940
It opened to 3 million in Japan? Big oof. Yikes.
>>
just watched this and apparently na'vi babies don't initially have the USB hair thing and they grow those up as they age? then why the fuck are they so scared of it getting cut? they can literally just grow it again
i thought it was fatal or something

I think these movies have weak narratives and it's a shame Cameron is spending 15 fucking years or whatever making them but one thing I will say is they're consistent. There's no huge drop-off in quality or effort, no Disney-esque assembly line mentality. If you liked the James Cameron Blue space cat experience chances are you'll like it the 2nd and 3rd time, too so of course they're still making money.
>>
>>216831346
I for one welcome Cameron's blue space cat experience and look forward to more.

The USB hair does two things: it lets you mind meld with animals other Navi (which they also use for sex in movie 1) and it also lets you upload your consciousness into the planet network when you die, where it gets preserved forever.

yeah no except it grows again. they're not really losing anything other than maybe the length
>>
>>216830801
I love how when this movie only makes between 1 billion and 1.5 billion people will consider it a flop. 3 films with a combined budget totally 1 billion thats gone on to make 6+ billion dollars. Something like this will never be seen again.

Also it was enjoyable enough watching in 3D.

Jake's consciousness was transferred from his human to avatar body without USB hair and without Kiri working her magic
>>
>>216830577
It's not magic. People save up for Christmas and only for Christmas during economically tight years. This a year's worth of pinching pennies finally getting a cathartic release
>>
>>216830577
Make the next movie nothing but Quaritch and Varang and single handedly get it to a billie.
>>
>>216831821
It's certainly possible that it tops out at $1-1.5b, but that would be the lowest multiplier in Cameron's 40-year career as well as unusual for the winter box office. At least $1.5 billion is more likely and that would still be his lowest multiplier since before 1984
>>
>>216831526
It was a lot more interesting than the 2nd for sure, I just wish Jim would be a bit more bold with his writing.

Agreed. Becomes a waste of time. Could have spent that time seeing Varang, or give me some more sci-fi talk from Norm. Or just make the movie shorter. 3 hours and 17 minutes is plenty long and scenes like this are not rewarding.

2nd movie was a disaster with that wigger spider character and blue nigger zoomies saying bru every 2 seconds. Cameron does human military scfi esthetics very well (Aliens). Avatar 2 needed way more human scenes. I could care less about the navi. Col Quaritch was the best character by far in the first movie. If avatar 4 was just about showing off human military power and might it would probably make a billion dollars. But no, we have to sit and watch these pretentious garbage movies that have no plot or message. Cameron really needs to retire.

the studios force the theaters to pay up front. thats what theaters mean when they complain about fixed costs and getting fucked by early streaming
>>
>>216837032
I've heard theaters also don't really make money from movies, their profit is mostly from concessions.
>>
>>216830623
I used to work as a manager for a theater and some seats are bought from the studio. Literally known as "studio seats". They were always in morning/mid day shows, and we're usually for mostly Disney films. It was between the years of 2016-2019 that were most frequent. I remember mostly for star wars films and marvel. Including Age of Ultron, Black Panther, The Force Awakens, and Captain Marvel specifically

That's exactly what it is. These movies are as generic as Henry Ford's Model T, fresh off the assembly line with guaranteed scifi tropes from everything else.

>>216830623
Absolute seething

>>216831312

>>216830623

>>
>>216831346
>they're consistent
They are. And also unpretentious, family-friendly, race-friendly and fun to watch, which is a lot by today's standards. He really hit the nail on the head bypassing all the tired tropes that give audiences fatigue. Avatar is a masterclass on how to print money:
1. Avoid expensive actor salaries
2. Capture all audiences worldwide
3. No expensive locations
4. Companies fighting to supply your project with their tech
5. Negligible expenses in publicity
6. Everything gets done in-house
7. All the budget syphoned into the visuals
He should get a lifetime award for best director because at 60-something he's innovating on how to squeeze every penny out of a production.
>>
This may be the first avatar i see a second time. The second act is worth it alone
>>
>>216830623
Why is this board so delusional about this? These movies are the last tentpole event viewing left. My theater was packed

>>
No. Cultural. Impact
>>
>>216840746
The other one I know of is Alita Battle Angel. My hope is this Avatar obsession Cameron has had for the past 20 years is so that he can use this Avatar tech to start his version of Lucasfilm. I know he doesn't care about the business aspect of it, but maybe he wants to see other creators use it to make some great stuff.

I think the whole "pretending James Cameron is a genius and Avatar is good" meme is the worst, most dishonest meme on 4channel. You guys have been doing it for over a decade and it has never once been funny. Doubling down on it just exposes you as a low IQ turd worlder that drank your own kool-aid and fell for your own lame joke. It's like the jeet Snyder worship but twice as cringy because you guys really start to believe it.
>>
>>216840483
It's a common element among all 3 movies that the first act is compelling, the 2nd is good, and the big final fight is pretty ass. This one I'll agree has a particularly compelling second act. By which I mean of course the most sexual.

Did you read the thread? Anyways I can empathize with the bewilderment, there are many weak spots to the films but the effects, production design, and action are still amazing and worth a watch on the big screen every few years. It's the kind of movie that you shouldn't even bother watching at home so I make a point to go see it at the kinoplex.
>>
>>216841169
He's right. Money isn't a good indicator of quality, these movies illustrate that point.
>>
>>216831346
I think Cameron just does these as an excuse to finance his engineering autism. He genuienly comes across as an autistic tech nerd, we know he can write better stuff, this isn't about creating a long lasting narrative, this is about "What new stuff can I invent this time?".
