Why the fuck are all of his stories about seething about the government for WWII? Fireball, Akira and the 2 stories he wrote for Memories (stink bomb and cannon fodder) are all seething about the japanese government for WWII.

Akira isn't ONLY about nukes. I'm pretty sure steam boy or whatever wasn't about this either
>>

Good movie, but I only like the slummy and bike riding parts. Yet it's not the (anti)WWII seething is what bothers me but the pretentiousness overload. They got carried away with the "it's just a dream bro, except it's not" part which seems like it's a whole different movie mashed up with "omg he took brown acid (too)" cool biker gang movie.

99% of Akira is about
>government bad
like literally every problem in the film is caused by the government being corrupt

Paprika beta versionlol

college aged japs born in the 1950s protested a lot in the 1970s, either anti globalization or pro commie or something else. Very tumultuous time before the hyper materialistic bubble 80s
>>
How is stink bomb seething at the government? It's a comedy, with some minor cop incompetency.
>>
>>216832014
Paprika is shite.
>>216832168
Yeah, it's a fart joke taken basically about as far as you can take it. And it's one of the best animes ever made.

>>216831995
Maybe he WAS RIGHT?
>after the 80s Japan went into a deep recession it since has never recovered from

You are unironically retarded. Everything is at it is.
>>
>>216832808
that was caused by the line goes uppers. Actually, literally the "people" for lack of a better term that toryama was seething about when he wrote freeza

shit I need to see this I'm already applauding

Japan were what they tell you the Nazis were. Extreme racial supremacists who were going around East and South East Asia purging populations for fun while sexually enslaving their women and children. They thought they worshipped a god-emperor who would bring them victory.

To be not only beaten back, but to be nuked by Americans - who at that time were seen as backwater hicks with a degenerated culture (I know) - was humiliating. To then have your 'god-emperor' demand surrender, then take a picture with an American general who brutally mogs him in stature, was shattering to the Japanese psyche.

This is unironically why I think cutesy anime exists, they cannot stomach reality or masculinity without triggering something deep within their blood memory. The voice of a revolver twirling American sends Japanese people into an anxiety attack.

2 of the 3 stories in memories (it's like an anthology film with 3 stories, the first one is the bests) are government bad. Well I guess stink bomb is more American government bad

japan had their own version of the boomer bankers
>line must go up, fire everyone line go up, invest in AI line go up, housing prices have to be a ton of money line go up, import jeets, line go up
shit that we have right now in the 80s which, combined with a treaty with the US lead to their recession because the stockmarket wasn't really related to productivity, like the US now. if you adjust for inflation, their stock market was never higher than in 1989 and there was a massive speculator boom which involved real estate speculation which is what toryama was seething about with Freeza. What's super fucked is the japs were rich as fuck. like the japs in 89 on were better off than we are now in terms of individual income and savings
