I've always liked it. I like this style for sci-fi, this and The Fifth Element are much more interesting versions of the future than the usual drab and dreary settings we get.
Cloying, annoying, very poorly made. It's the worst in the franchise.

Its a masterpiece compared to what came after it.

The joke about Weyland-Yutani being bought out by Walmart is a microcosm of everything wrong about Whedon's script.The visuals are really good though, Jeunet does a hell of a job and the Alien suits are the best looking in the entire franchise, they really look like living creatures and not just dudes in suits (best looking suits, not best creature design. Big Chap is still the winner). The creatures being genetic abominations created through cloning does help with accepting the redesign though.I also really like the art direction, Alien was a truck cab and loading dock, Aliens was a factory, Alien 3 and prison/monastary, Resurrection has this strange utilitarian aesthetic, everything is made out of metal, it's all hard edges and bolts and rivets.

>>216833621It's weighed down by its awful script. They killed off Michael Wincott way too early when he was one of the only interesting characters. Cloning Ripley to get the alien makes no sense. The space pirates or whatever are just there to get killed. By the end it devolves into slapstick comedy, just an awful entry in the franchise.

I thought it was fun.Aliens > Alien 3 > Alien > Romulus > Promethues > Covenant. Yeah, I find the OG Alien to be too slow paced.
