>he's evil because... he provides a valuable service at a fair market rate
>fair market rate
>>216835619if it wasn't nobody would pay it
>>216835617Scrooge isn’t evil. His callousness and disregard for others makes the world worse and damns his soul.
>>216835659holy basedfuck that commie, supply and demand is king
>>216835760Yeah he's not a rapist or murderer, paedophile or anything remotely close to true evil. In DnD terms he would be Lawful Evil at best.
>>216835617He's mean and blunt and a tough businessman, but hardly evil.
Saw the muppets version last night. It's pretty fucking clear he is a landlord in that version but apparently in the book he is just a money lender. They talk about them raising rents all the time, but a lender/mortgage broker can't raise any rents. Sure the interest might rise, but i think 99% of loans back then were probably fixed and not adjustable rate.
>>216835767kikenomics
>>216835617He's an asshole, but not evil nor was he portrayed as such
the point was that he's hurting himself more than anyone elsea point still lost on rich sociopaths
>>216835617He's not evil, he's callous. If he were evil he wouldn't have been so easy for the ghosts to manipulate.
>>216835801Dickens meant for him to be a sort of stand in for the average British businessman who ignores the squalor around them. Not a bad person inherently, but one whose hardened heart destroys goodness unintentionally.
*leaves your broke ass*
>>216836204fuck
>>216835760I think the main point is that he lives a shitty life and basically wastes it for money even though he has more than enough. in the short story it's described that he lives extremely frugally, basically takes no pleasure in anything, alinates everyone around him including his family and is shitty to his employee. and at the end he'll die with alot of money but with no one around who even really gives a fuck that he died
>be me>ebenezer scrooge>shitty life>take shit>fuck this>get insanely rich>alienate everyone around me>old business partner and three ghosts visit>plead for me to change my ways>lmao suck my dick>wake up the next day>roll around in my riches>visit bob cratchet's house>tell him and tiny tim to get fucked>charles dickens btfo
>>216835801In traditional morality people like that are less culpable than the lukewarm evildoer because motivated by passions
>>216835617Bro was hustlin
Scrooge is defined by his relationship with Belle and it's where all things go wrong for him. Adaptations that miss that are shit.
He wasn't evil, he was miserable and wasting his life
>>216838143he's literally me
>>216836511>alienate everyone around meI don't know, his nephew still invited him over for Christmas
>>216839122That was in spite of Scrooge. Fred persevered regardless.
>>216835617The spirits didn’t tell him he was evil, they told him he was going to die alone because he was an asshole. Many such cases (here)
>>216836311S…shut up!
>>216836548>>216838143The kids are going to be ok.

>>216839337For me its The Junky’s Christmas https://youtu.be/u6kHN92Yv48?si=8GskLNVc86jc9_2r
>>216835617In the book Scrooge works on Christmas because he's Jewish.
why didn't he call the ghostbuster
>>216835617(((fair market rate)))
>>216839243And he was going to drag around a gigantic chain while suffering for eternity because he was "just a lil' grumpy"?
>>216841471It's because he wasn't kind. Not only does his own hard-heartedness serve him little good in life but also forges the chains he will will carry in eternity. I mean, all this cunt had to do was be nice and give a bit to charity and enough money to his goddamn employee so his son didn't die of rickets or whatever. Christmas Past showed how he had changed for the worse, which only ended up punishing him in life. Christmas Present showed him how kindness and charity carry their own rewards that go far beyond money, and Christmas Future was to remind him that all his money means nothing in death and his own bed linens are stolen immediately after he dies and his fellow businessmen don't even fucking care he died. So spend a bit of that shit, stop being an absolute prick, and you'll be richer if not in death than certainly in life.
>>216842049>give free handouts to people or else you will suffer forever after death! Are there not poorhouses?
They call him mean and disliked a lot but that was more describing his personality and how people viewed him than outright calling him evil though the subtext is that it's deserved. It only overtly dubs him as bad when he's enjoying himself for getting Jacob Marley's money without a hint of pity for the death of his best and only friend, saying Scrooge's a "squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner".
>>216835617The whole point is that he isnt really evil, he is kinda cheap and worst>Why should I donate, I already pay taxes which go to the poor>Why should I pay more to my clerk?>Why should I give forgive unpayed mortgage? They knew what they were getting into when I gave it to them.In the story he realises that while not really doing anything evil per say he is still making the lives of alot of people worseThe Muppets movie is actually the retelling that better understands that.
>>216835617People like this are the ones that import the entire third world into the country to drive down wages
>>216842691If anything, the people who renege on their contracts with him or demand money he earned through his own work are the villains
>>216835617happy hannakuh OPI bet you also think Mr Potter is the hero of It's a Wonderful Life
>>216836004>just a money lenderimplying bankers aren't evil and don't control the world
