I actually think it looks great, I just love the big set/fake snow thing. They've filmed most of it, the rest is being filmed sometimes when it snows apparently. Stars Devon Sawa, they put some stuff up on their Instagram.

>>216868776
Basically yeah. I think they shot one more expensive scene with tons of fake snow but a full 90m film that's good requires many more sets, a good script, lots of extras, sfx, props, locations etc.
The budget of the original would be about 13m in today's money. They probably have idk a 2m budget now.
>>
>>216868834
If that happens I hope they find a more interesting way to kill the blob at the end
>>
It's not as bad as I expected.
My resolution for the new year is to watch more modern movies instead of writing them off so easily. Even if they're no good, I watch plenty of bad old movies anyway without thinking twice.

The slasher's costume is cool, Justin Long is entertaining, the lead girl is cute, and Katherine Isabelle is in it. It has its qualities.
For some reason, nearly every character in the movie seems to be gay though. Also this actress has a giant mole on her face and none of the characters made any kind of comment about or reference to it, even privately

Just finished. (Devil Sorcery 1987)
That poster is by far the coolest thing about this Malaysian movie. Some sorcerer's dopey lackey decides he's tired of being treated shabbily and raped his boss' wife, then stabs him. Then he goes on the lam and starts abducting lots of pretty local girls through the use of flying ghost girl heads and ties them to trees for some purpose. He meets a bargirl he really likes and puts a super potent curse on her when he's insulted by her, and she needs an exorcism. My description is a lot more coherent than the movie, and actually required me to connect a bunch of dots the movie doesn't bother to. That he's been abducting girls is something that gets dropped on you without any setup, it goes straight from he's pissed with some bar owner for kicking him out of his business because he smells bad to suddenly there are a bunch of girls tied up outside his cave. He also never bothers going after the bar owner despite that conflict getting plenty of setup. There is very little cause and effect in this thing, just shit happening. Characters have long conversations with each other trying to figure out very basic things. There are lasers and bug puking and boobs, but pubes are censored. Makes you feel like you're drunk.

according to imdb it's in pre-production so the script's been worked out. David Bruckner is supposedly directing but he also had plans for a Hellraiser sequel so idk

I'm having shitty luck with my Christmas horror viewing this year.
Silent Night, Bloody Night was an alright but boring slasher. I respect that it was an early slasher but except for the sepia tone flashback nothing really held my interest.
And now To All A Good Night is another boring slasher, except it at least pretty girls so it's slightly better but still pretty dull.

This is going to sound reddit but the whole theater erupted in laughter and applause at "garbage day!" Its a cherished Christmas memory.

>>216872338
Nice, that looks fun. Ok I'll check that out.

It's starting to feel like slashers aren't really my thing anymore. What do people think of the Prowler? I didn't like it that much because it seemed very competently made but it didn't have anything that gave it personality. The Burning was better. It leaned into the summer camp vibes and it felt more like what my parents imagined a Friday the 13th movie to be like.
The Intruder was another good slasher. Just like the burning was rich with summer camp stuff, Intruder got really creative with the kills to take advantage if the grocery store setting. It also felt very energetic and better paced which made it all seem a lot more like a movie than just hanging out in a big house waiting to see someone murdered.
>>
>>216872933
I really liked the prowler, partly because of the costume. But also it feels like a snapshot from a sleepy romantic time.
>>
>>216872536
Yeah it's a slog. The first is pretty good on it's own.
>>
>>216872969
The costume was cool but it made me expect him to do some commando soldier stuff, or be all mysterious like those Sandman comics.
It would be totally fair to say I just keep seeing it on a bad night or my expectations got in the way. It just wouldnt be the one I buy a dvd of.
>>
>>216872164
There's Don't Open Till Christmas.
It's almost incoherent, but there's a lot of kills in it.
>>
>>216873062
To be fair I think I saw it on a good night as well. You have to be in the mood for some of those slower slashers.
Intruder is kino though. Both have some sick death scenes.

The one I posted might be the only Malaysian movie I've ever seen. The big player in the area is Indonesia, and the big ones I'm aware of were all released by Mondo Macabro. Mystics from Bali, Lady Terminator, Dangerous Seductress, and Queen of Black Magic. An actress named Suzzanna is their big horror star. I saw a modern one recently called Midnight Show and it was lousy.
>>
I watched Weapons today and I don't understand how the bewitched people lived in that house for an entire month. Alex had to feed them soup every day. What about their other bodily functions? Just finished. Concrete-Encased High School Girl Murder Case (1995). Depressing docudrama style reenactment of the famous Junko Furuta case where a high school girl was held captive by four other teenagers for 40 days and raped and beaten until she died. It feels like something you'd have to watch for a school assignment, with tons of narration and the ultimate message that at the time sentencing policy for minors who commit violent crimes was too lenient. It's very sympathetic to the victim and clearly is trying elicit anger and disgust from the audience and isn't trying to be entertainment. It works, the movie's upsetting and I can't think of a reason anybody should watch it.

Just finished. Silly and embarrassing softcore vampire flick. This was a staple on skinemax and I hadn't seen it since I was a kid and didn't remember any of it. For somebody my age in 1995, being told I was going to get to see Alyssa Milano's boobs was like being told I... I thought about it for a full minute and couldn't think of anything I wanted more at that time than getting to see Alyssa Milano's boobs, lol. The premise is there's this unnamed vampire hanging around a college (he doesn't pose as a student or a professor, he's just there, lol) and Alyssa is the reincarnation of his one true love or something, and she turns 18(!) in three days and if she doesn't sleep with him by then he'll literally die. But she has to do it voluntarily, so he can't just take her by force and instead has to seed doubt in her mind about her current boyfriend, who she hasn't slept with. Alyssa is a virgin raised by nuns(!) and the movie is so philosophically prudish that if the nudity was cut out it could pass for a Christian film. At one point Alyssa has a bad girl phase that entails getting gothed up and then smoking a cigarette and having two glasses of wine. LMFAO. Someone slips ecstasy in her drink and she hallucinates a fully clothed orgy is taking place. The cast is nuts for something this chintzy, Rachel True is there and Jordan Ladd (who is shockingly cute), and there's a cameo by Jennifer Tilly as the (male) vampire attempting to seduce the boyfriend. She comes on strong and casting her as the idealized temptress was a good choice, lemme tell you. The movie's tedious as fuck and the vampire just gives up at the end, lmao. The production team was largely female, and I appreciate them making the movie so booby. The director was Francis Ford Coppola's editor, including on Dracula, and the next year she did Alyssa's other big titty movie, Poison Ivy 2.
