thread full of people who don't know, was mid-20s during the 80s and barely anyone watched TV habitually enough to follow MTV, getting more information about their favorite bands from magazines. but the ST kids were presumably all born in the mid-late 70s and are all middle class suburbanites so they probably all watched TV habitually. people who were actually into music either went roadie mode and followed bands around, or hung out at the venues in their city that booked bands they liked. suburbanites and ruralites would just hang out at music shops or bars. im kinda surprised they never touched on any of the culture surrounding music in this show given how much they reference 80s music. most people got their music taste from falling into a social group and then going to bars with those people. liability laws and litigious kikes hadn't raped america yet so teenagers going to bars was still common. this is partly why dive bars exist, rural and suburban bars stagnated and started only catering to locals because all the kids would go to the city to go drinking(also no DUI laws yet and nobody would bother a drunk sleeping it off in their car)
