The biggest problem with this show is that Ashur doesn't have good secondary characters to interact with. The Doctore and Claudia Black both have an entertaining dynamic with him but it's not enough, but he at least needs one more person to have fun banter with. The second biggest problem is that the gladiators aren't nearly as charismatic as the gladiators in the original show. There is no Crixus this time around.

Celadus fought many times and never made any sort of fame, which means he is a scrub despite surviving. Tarchon seems to have not fought before the series and hes still up and coming. Achillia only won because the guy let his guard down, and Proculus seems like a shitty lanista in general. Gladiators in Capua are in a shitty state in general after the rebellion, it seems.
