>reddit hates it>/tv/ loves itwhy?
People on reddit and 4chan like the same thing about the movie, Quaritch and Varang.
James Cameron is so far ahead of everyone else in Hollywood that it's hard to even Conceptualize. Watching Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 is like an incredibly pleasant version of the reminder of just how stagnant the industry has been for so long. Cameron is just on a completely different level.

because everybody in the real world now talks about avatar with derision, and /tv/ has a contrarianism disease

>7.5 on IMDb>90% on Rotten Tomatoes >90% on Fandango >already grossed 600M+Redditards just love being contrarians I guess
>>216922900True
>>216923021This is over 3 hours long and feels like Avatar 2 with additional elements like Skytraders and Ash People. If you like Avatar movies as thrill rides, it's Avatar and they are always stunning.
>>216922801/tv/ has mostly people who grew up playing video games and it seems like Avatar hits that vibe, since it was made by Cameron, who went on to inspire many games with movies like Aliens and Terminator, I can see why a lot of gamers like the movies, it has space marines, cool visuals, dragons, fantasy and hard sci-fi elements, etc. but then again, /tv/ is always contrarian to reddit so of course, /tv/ loves Avatar because reddit pretentious faggots hate it, and there was also a time when Marvel was at its peak and a lot marvel slop fans were being openly hostile to Avatar being the highest grossing film so this just made /tv/ double down more. Its clear now that reddit judges "cultural impact" based on how much it can make memes, like if your movie is designed to generate as much memes as possible, its probably marvel slop. Also to be fair, we had avatar countdown fag which kinda made tv/ root for Avatar to make the 2 billies.

Because it features a racist who race mixes and sees no contradiction

I don't care how "ZASED" and "COLONIZER KINO!!" it is. I'm not watching a movie which is 90 percent CGI. Fuck you.
>>216923021>Alright can someone who is not a spastic retard tell me if this movie is worth it to seeSee it if you liked the 3D and effects of first movies. If you thought the 2nd was similar to the 1st, this is even worse.>think going to get some new locales, ash and volcanoes, maybe underground >instead it's just the 2nd movie all over again, with bits of the first movie sprinkled in>same setting, same plot beats, etc>there's more time spent on recycled shit from the 1st movie(forests, flying fuckers, etc) than actual new content(ash people, motherbase)Go see if you want top tier effects and eat some popcorn. Kind of forget the recycled plot and just appreciate the CG.
Quartich is the best character
>>216923887It's more like 60% CGI. With enough live action or practical elements present most of the time to help things feel more grounded, and all the CGI characters are still physically driven by real performances
>>216922930I don't think he's done anything to get ahead so much as everyone else has fallen behind. Nothing about Avatar 3 blows my socks off, but I went in expecting a decent time and I got a decent time. Somewhere over the past decade or so, this has become an incredibly rare thing.
>>216923021Yeah, the movie is literally just more Avatar. There is nothing more or less to it. If you had an okay time with the previous movies, you'll have an okay time with this one.
the only criticism people have of the first movie is that it's a ripoff of FernGully or some other movieI saw it in the theater back then and thought it was a lot of fun
>>216922930This at first appears hyperbolic but after enough years, you too will come to this conclusion. Hes like the last viable Blockbuster auteur, a throwback to a bygone era of filmmaking that is sorely missed in this lightweight era. He indeed is raising the bar...
>>216923485It's never been about hating the Na'vi. It's about loyalty to humanity. If there's Na'vi that want to work with the humans, then they're alright.
>>216924007The action scenes and overall camera work in Avatar 3 are nothing short of incredible. The whole movie is so kinetic and visually captivating. It makes the 3 hr 15 minute runtime just breeze by smoothly. It's an incredible accomplishment and just on a completely different level compared to everything else.
>>216924184It's faster paced, more action, more going on, but also messier and structured worse than Way of Water, centered around a not-great character and actor, and it ends abruptly with little to no idea of how much the big finale mattered in the grand scheme of things
>>216924271I agree with a lot of those critiques and think Way of Water is the better movie for those reasons. Fire and Ash is still great though.

Main problem with these movies is despite how much time is spent with Jake and his family it still does a piss poor job of making us care about them.I simply don't care if any of them live or die, they're so bland and cookie cutter. Even if any of them has some "profound" thought or insight it some stock primitive culture platitude. Jake has not developed as a character ever since he got perma-embedded into his navi avatar. He's a non-character, a plot device at best.Even Kiri's shtick is boring as fuck.Meanwhile Quaritch actually has an arc and Varang's tribe is more interesting simply because they go against the grain and have a unique dynamic. I remember watching Avatar 1 and the first few shots of the jungle made it look like a very hostile and alien environment. Now it's just a stock jungle populated by stock navi npcs who are all saying stock lines, like as if their dialogue options have been exhausted. Cameron needs to up the ante and not keep mucking about these whalers or the same exact "oh no humans are coming" waves of attacks. How many times do we need to see that helicopter swung around and tossed by an alien bird. Shit, I feel like I've seen the same exact shot 20 times now. We get it, let's move on to something different.

>>216924474I think Jake has an arc, especially relating to Spider. Ney'tiri as a character has one with her warming up to Jake and humans, falling in love with one, then regressing after her son is killed. I think they're more compelling as characters after they've had their kids together. But Quaritch is the more compelling character.Don't disagree with everything else.>Even Kiri's shtick is boring as fuck. She's basically space Jesus or Alia in Dune, except not treated like an abomination like Alia was. That being said, I feel Sigourney Weaver's acting takes me out of it too much. She has never sounded young to me, and that's only exacerbated by the meta knowledge of a recognizable actress in having an actress in her 70's play the teenaged character.
>>216924474In sublime irony, it's turning into ATLA. You could make the same comparison between Aang and Zuko.
>>216922930This. Avatar movies are the tombstone to 80-90s Hollywood. Reminder of past greatness. When I watched TWoW and FaA I almost shed a tear for how clear it was that true filmmaking is just gone and I was in sort of time capsule where it still didn't. Probably will watch it a few more times. But I disagree that Cameron isn't above the rest of them. He clearly is. He makes likes of Nolan and Villeneuve look like shitters. And those supposed to be the leaders of modern movie making.
>>216922801>/tv/ loves itMore like the resident shills love it. I mean, you guys literally had an inorganic meme anxiously awaiting years for the next Avatar movies. You motherfuckers are unironic shills.
>>216923021It's fucking great
>>216927359this hit me halfway throughits the last bastion of “real” film-making.it has a core ethos it unashamedly stands by, it has a clear aesthetic vision, the shots are fucking art, the 3D emphasis is masterful, the colors are vibrant, even the retarded Na’vi bullshit stops being grating and gay 5 minutes in because its SO UNIRONIC you can suspend disbelief successfully. Little reminders that they ARE speaking naavi too in-world - when quaritch talks to varang at the rda base - its only english dialogue for our sake. even if the editing was a little fast, i enjoyed it for being proud of what it is. big vision, well executed vision, big shots, big scenes, even the funny animal centric scenes are magic. its cringe before and after you watch it, but while youre watching it you are entranced. compare this to something like dune and its fucking laughable. reminds me why i only go to movies when im with a bitch these days, this level of artistry is gone. i just wish it had more practical effects.
