The only reason new hope was a smash hit was because the execs cut out all of the lucas bullshit. Its original theatrical cut is perfect in every way and almost impossible to obtain now due to lucas meddling. You'd have to find the 95 laser disc or VHS copy to get it.
Great music, great fight scenes, and the pod race. It also helps that it was shot on film and looks good.
Let's be honest, TPM and AOTC are the worst Star Wars movies. They're worse than any of the sequels.
