This scene would have been much better if they showed the real context (which was written after the movie unfortunately) Luke is basically sensing Palpatine inside of Ben which is probably good enough reason to freak him out. It's like being psychic and sensing Adolf Hitler's ghost in the room with your nephew.

They should have removed Luke, Leia and Han and hired someone who knows how to write to make a new trilogy. Those 3 characters having to be in there hamstrung the trilogy in terms of plot and the amount you could get invested in the new characters (no one did) so badly that it ruined it.
