Some anon posted this movie in another thread the other day and I watched it. Apparently this is considered a classic but I can't believe how kinda progressive it is for 1960.
>>216925226That poor cuck.
>>216925226I also saw it recently, I loved itHow did you think it was progressive? Because the elevator lady was aware of how she was being used for a cheap fling?
>>216925271in the sense of how it made her out to be really sympathetic and not just some hysterical delusional bitch acting out. she attempted suicide and it's not portrayed as her being frivolous and stupid or whatever.
jack lemmon fucking sucks
>>216925226Yeah it's awesome to have a movie for this gap between christmas and new years that's about suicide
>>216925391hey lighten up. she lived. and the movie isn't about that.
>>216925377that's funny I liked him and wanna watch more movies with him in them. why do you say he sucks?
>>216925333Yeah I see that, the movie does treat her with a lot of respect as someone who has a good heart but fell into her scenario because she's young, foolish and easily pushed around by authority figures. I like how that's something she and Baxter have in common, it just manifests in their lives in different ways but it puts them on an equal footing narrativelyOne thing I really liked was that Baxter's offhand mention of a suicide attempt wasn't a lie, in the moment you think he's just saying something to make her feel better but then he actually pulls out a gun later. The movie doesn't dwell on it but it's a nice way to give Baxter some emotional depth and make him out to be capable of real feeling and not just be some happy go lucky clown
>>216925226Watch more olden-time flicks. It sounds like you barely have. And you have an assumption of what they're all like. Snoresville melodrama of boring weirdos talking with mid-Atlantic accents. But, if you actually get into Golden Age films. They're a lot more interesting and entertaining than you assume. '30s Screwballs, '40s Noir, early musicals. Can be incredible. And will surprise you in the same way the Apartment did. And, The Apartment shouldn't really have shocked you that much. Because it's RIGHT at the tail end of Classic Hollywood. Just a couple years later. You've got New Hollywood and heaps of movies that go way further. Shirley MacLaine is cute.
>>216925226>I can't believe how kinda progressive it is for 1960.You don't know shit about old movies then. So many 60s and 50s movies are turbo bluepilled. There must have been a concerted effort starting in the mid 50s to make guys find sluts and whores acceptable.
>>216925659>not just be some happy go lucky clowneven before you get any hints what with the gun or anything I just really got the vibe that it was all a facade. he rents out his apartment in the first place, why? I got the idea it's because he's doesn't wanna be alone with himself and his own thoughts too long. no home to go back to means you have an excuse to keep working late and not think about anything. gives you an excuse to not date anyone seriously because you have nowhere to take them home to anyway, oh sorry cant go to my place, see ya. he only wanted it back when he thought he needed it for some extra sleep but even then he changed his mind. getting stood up at the theater must have really fucked with him even though he just played it off
>>216925737>>216925793wow we got a couple of SHERLOCK HOLMES in here no I haven't watched many old movies. should I watch Some Like It Hot?
>>216925825If you want more of what I am talking about watch 'The World of Suzie Wong' and 'Irma la Douce' among many other sex movies of the era. Hollywood has been a mindfuck machine since the late 30s.
>>216925226According to Fred MacMurray's daughter he was at Disney Land and a woman came up to him and hit him with her purse, saying: "I took my kids to see THE APARTMENT because you were in it. That was not a Disney movie!" And so he swore he'd never play another villain because he wanted to protect his family friendly image.
>itt zoom zooms realize that the 50s weren't actually like those toaster ads they post on /pol/
>>216925226Great movieGender dynamics used to be fucking crazy. We really must go back.
>>216925226The movie didn't age at all, it's funny. Even that open office feels modern when you think about it
>>216926154>his family friendly image. He's the guy who created flubber, then used it to cheat at sports. Nice family friendly image from Disney,
>>216925825If you hadn't seen any old movies, it shouldn't have been surprising that you assumptions were wrong. Of course they would be. You didn't know anything. And Sure. Watch that if you want. And if you want to keep watching even more Billy Wilder: Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity and Sabrina. Classics.
>>216926398I'm not surprised to be wrong I don't even consider myself wrong because I didn't have any expectations going in but I'm not dumb, I know anons wanna frame everything as a confrontation because its more fun to fight. go ahead and give me all your oldie recs, I'm making a list
>>216925793Predictive programming coinciding with the founding of alphabrt agencies.
>>216926437I've enjoyed a lot of movies. It's hard to narrow down. What you should do is just find any list of 'top 100 classic movies'. They're probably all mostly the same. And watch whatever sounds most interesting to you. But. Here's my recs. I said to watch Screwballs and Noirs. So, that's what I'll recommend. Screwball comedies: Bringing Up Baby, It Happened one Night, His Girl Friday, Remember the Night.Noir: Out of the Past, Leave Her to Heaven, Angel Face, Laura. And the Gods. Anything by Powell and Pressburger. Specifically: A Canterbury Tale, Black Narcissus, A Matter of Life and Death, The Red Shoes.
Hated this movie immensely. Don't understand its popularity at all.And i was 44 when i tried watching it, not a zoomer.
>>216927002well. they've been added to my list. the funny thing is I have at least heard of all of those and recognize them by name. but know nothing about any of them.
>>216925246Imagine sleeping in your coworkers' semen and pussy liquids. What a bedcuck.
