I actually just went into the archives and read a couple of threads from 2013 discussing this scene right as the phenomenon known as "bane posting" began. I didn't gain any insight from this, but it filled me with a melancholic joy, and I recommend others do so as well.I wonder how many posters from that era are still with us

It was very accessible and people who hadn't seen the movie were able to watch it on youtube and discuss it. Combine this with Bane's incomprehensible voice which was so hard to hear they panicked and had to redub it for the actual movie, and you have the perfect recipe for a meme.
