Why are there credits in a movie? Seems egotistical. And for no reason too. Nobody reads them and I'm pretty sure it's not even possible to memorise the whole thing anyway. The few instances in which someone actually needs to find something they just look it up online.
>>
Holdover from the pre-(as we understand it now)internet era. In theory it's for people to show they worked on a thing but realistically it was just for the ego of jew producers who wanted their name on a big screen.
My biggest thing is who the fuck gives a shit about who did craft services and things like that?
Like has there ever been a scenario where somebody watched a movie through the credits and went "oh Jim amd Andy's Grub and Catering, better write that name down!"
>>
man, remember 50+ years ago when they would put all of the credits at the START of a film, so you HAD to sit through it all in order to watch it? absolute misery.
>>
>>216929583
that happened because theater experiences were completely different. before psycho you just walked in whenever and left whenever. the start of the movie would be the least likely part to be seen and people would stay for the end because they were most likely there for newsreels
>>
i like letting the credits run while catching up on stuff i missed while watching the movie on my phone
>>
>>216929583
those were only a few minutes long compared to the half hour they are now
>>
>>216929583
the fuck do you mean remember? no one on this site is older than 40
>>
>nobody reads them
This isn't quite true. Production companies might refer to sections of credits if, say, someone is applying to work for them and their resume includes past movies they worked on.
For truthfulness it's best to just have the credits attached to the movie itself than have them stored in some fragmented/unreliable online databases

Isn't it required by the Film Actors Guild or something?

Those are just opening credits.
Those have always been a thing George Lucus was thrown out of the directors guild for the sole reason of not having

This is still how it works in museums that show video art which is honestly really fucking baffling especially if they have nothing else and the videos aren't synced at all so you basically have to start watching everything from the middle.
>>
as usual, OP is retarded.
It is just a way to catalog the crew of a movie for future reference like >>216929803 said. It is not necessary to watch, just an industry thing which is why they make it boring and simple. That is until Marvel forced people to sit through them for their stupid post credit sequences
>>
>>216931204
No one would do it though. They just look it up digitally. Plus, they could just write it down. Or if they actually had HONEST people in the industry they could just take people's word for it. Not that it matters anyway because you still have to trust whoever it is who wrote the credits and you have to trust that they double checked the whole thing before releasing it to make sure no one snuck in and changed or added something.

>98% of movies ever made pre-date internet search
I like to see what artists and songs were in the soundtrack. I guess you can just turn it off or leave if it bothers you?

Lots of us are over 40, newfren

It was an old trick to slow people down on the exit so they don't pile up.
>>
>>216928276
No you dumb fuck. It's publicly published proof that you worked on that movie production in case some JEW decides to skimp on paying you. Also, it's like LinkedIndian before that existed. Anyone wanting to hire you can just check the credits to see if you're lying. Dumbass polbrained Indian I swear one of these days...

Absolutely retarded or LARPing as such.
Any online reference you can imagine is easy to alter. Credits that are baked into every copy off a movie are not.

The purpose off credits is to be public, legal proof that you worked on the movie. Without it, you didn't work on the movie. You have no proof, therefore it didn't happen.
