>>216930758Yeah.
it's extremely comfy and Gillian's voice is so soothing
>>216930758>Le Unit 731>Le operation paperclip >Le cointplreo>Le japanese internment camps>Le Soviets were actually Nazis all along
>>216930758It's comfy and Scully is beautiful but it's not exactly "good" apart from like a dozen episodes. It has more soul than modern TV , thoughever.
>>216930758Not if you're a 90s born queer or zoomer.
>>216930758Yes, a few episodes aged poorly but as a whole it’s still one of the best shows ever made
So what’s the status on Scully’s hair? Is it bald? Landing strip? Unkempt?
>>216930758duh?
>>216930923>>216930986Exactly, you won't get blown away by an amazing story, but the overall style is just so good and well-made
>>216930758Why do you need our opinion? Why not just watch it and make up your own mind?
>>216931106Bald and there is photographic evidence. The truth is out there.
>Monster of the Week episodesYes>Myth arcAbsolutely not.
>>216930758>Is the X-Files still worth watching today? Yes, as long as you understand the ground rules:>Episodes fall into 2 categories. There are "monster of the week" episodes, which are self-contained stories, often kino. The rest are "mythology" episodes, which tend to be weaker, but contribute to an overall paranoia which is [correctly] never resolved in the canonical series.>The canonical series consists of the first 7 seasons. (There is no "X-Files" without Mulder.) But even before that, both lead actors had gone full Hollywood and started losing their minds. The 1998 X-Files movie was the beginning of the end.>The alleged "revival" seasons are unwatchable trash, Tumblr-tier fan fiction which could only ruin your nostalgic memories of the real show.>Dana Scully is a pure, top-tier waifu. But Gillian Anderson is a diseased streetwalking whore. Learn the difference, it could save your life.
>>216931380I need to know more about this evidence
>>216930758not as of this moment. Kinda like current slop only they believe in entertaining you too. Still amounts to just some not so subtle progressive porn.
most of it turned out to be true so it is a bit dated in that sense. spoiler alert: its the jews
>>216931454Pretty much this. It's worth watching the "mythology" episodes once, but they are honestly the weakest episodes and the overall plot they're trying to tell never makes much sense and never gets resolved. On repeat watchings you can skip them.
>>216932164what season is that?
When the Smoking Man tried to have Skinner whacked and later framed for murder, did he forget about the time the Skinman threatened to unleash the Majestic 12 files held by the HEYA HOYAS?
>>216933226He knows that they are just threats and Skinner won't follow through. It's pretty much cemented in their first interaction when Skinner points at his "no smoking" rule
Scully being too hot will be read in my manifesto someday.
>>216930758yes and no, i rewatched it recently and i still havent recovered, the 90's were so comfy and i want to go back so bad and i cant stop thinking about it and it makes me sad that im stuck here.
>>216933828literally me
>>216930758I'd say more than half of episodes have aged like milk
>>216930758Hell yeah. i am on my first watch and it is great. I absolutely love it.
>>216933828I'm on my first watch, and the comfy vides and, I dont know the right wording. Aesthetic? Vibe? Ethos? People simply looked and acted different in the 90s. I know its a work of fiction, but it still would have drawn heavily from reality. How people speak. What they say. What the writers thought was important for the characters to say. It is almost alien in its lack of snark, irony, and hardness. Even how the characters have this gentle way of teasing and joking is incredible to watch.
>>216930758Is it one anon making this thread, over and over and over and over ad infinitum?
>>216930758Most definitely. Just watched D.P.O. and Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose on Comet last night.
>>216930758Yes, I am rewatching it throughout the years, I am now on season 6 and it's still going really well.
>>216931380Not in the 90s it wasn't. She said it herself.
>>216933828Stuck here, and every year that passes is worse than the one that came before it. It just gets worse and worse and worse.
>>216934557In the 90s I bet she had a nicely maintained landing strip or triangle.
>>216934578Most women ladyscaped a little. Trimming shapes into your bush was considered weird.t. Was there.
>>216934650The truth is out there. We must find it.
>>216931454>implying Gillie being a horny freak irl isn’t a huge part of her appeal Bitch, please

Hey /tv/, I think my phone is broken ’cause guys aren’t sending me pictures of their junk
UN Secretary is fine too...
>>216934842you were able to post, so something must have worked.
>>216934832I love her Jodie Foster SotL inspired look in the pilot.
My favorite episode is widely considered to be one of the show's worst episodes. Which one is my favorite?
>>216935016The 'vampire' one with Mrs. Ari?
>>216935016Space
>>216935053>>216935114So far, nope
>>216935016"Revenge of Peruvian shaman-ghost" aka "Teso Dos Bichos"?
I prefer Rockford Files Angel episodes
>>216935016First Person Shooter
>>216930834Lay off the /pol/ fumes, tard.
>>216935156Winner winner chicken dinner
>>216935172Pol is spamming these things to this day, but the myth arc was kinda tedious anyways, I loved the insect environmentalist episode
>>216935016Since someone else already said Teso Dos Bichos, I'll go with Space. Which I'm very fond of, despite way too much focus on the boring sabotage plot and not enough space ghost kino.
>>216935210I actually agree on both points.
>>216935156>>216935173I don’t hate this one, but I prefer the comfy early/mid 90s episodes about the early internet and goth hackers. First Person Shooter is extremely year 2000 feeling.
>>216930758Yes. 24 mini-movies, with a distinct visual style, filmed on location, each with an original score. They don't make shit like it anymore. It's kino. >>216934550Season 6 is my favorite season. Lot of great episodes in there
>>216935381>season 6I watch the alien baseball player one every spring. Very comfy. How the Ghosts Stole Christmas is kino as well.
The original X-Files attacked institutions. The revival reflected 2016 culture, where Hollywood framed Trump as the primary threat.
>>216930758>202 episodes not counting the movies and revival seasonsJesus fucking ChristIt would take you the better part of a year to watch all of it at the pace of 1 episode per dayHow can anyone be expected to make such a colossal time commitment?
>>216936824Honestly after about season 5, you can just skip around to the good MotW episodes and skip the myth arc stuff if you want.
>>216930758The standalone episodes are great.
>>216930758S1>Great season minus a couple of free episodes. sS2>First half suffers from Scully not being available due pregnancy, second half goes back on trackS3>Great episodes mixing with annoying episodes with Scullly's cancer shitS4, 5, 6>Absolute greatness. That being said - yes, it absolutely worth it.
>>216937147First season is the best season as far as UFO lore goes and being inspired by actual UFO shit.
>>216930758yes
Watch first five seasons and movie. Season six has some kino but some magic was lost after they moved production to california
>>216930758I enjoy Space. I see no big problems with it. Alien shit is spooky and creepy and weird. Guest star is amazing actor with weird face that adds to atmosphere. Astronauts plot is rather intense and gripping. NASA Center setting is fun and cool and comfy. Sculy and Mulder being less involved, more like spectators, is probably the only thing i can criticize but Mulder who pulled off his cheerful fascination with everything about the space program was entertaining to watch. All around fun episode.
>>216931454>The alleged "revival" seasons are unwatchable trash, Tumblr-tier fan fiction which could only ruin your nostalgic memories of the real show.Mostly true however. The Mulder on shrooms episode is just fucking hilarious, even if for the wrong reasons. Also the were-human-lizard episode is actually pretty good, at least when compared to the joke episodes around seasons 5-7.
>>216930758Anytime anyone mentions the X-Files, I get this song stuck in my headhttps://youtu.be/Wijp4-3giNw
>>216935016I bet it's "Roland"
>>216937286I like Space too, mostly for the vibes but in my eyes it has 2 major problems. As you said Mulder And Scully barely have any input on whats happening. They are just watching these events unfold then speculating about it. The concept itself kind of makes it hard to even write them having impact on the story. Because of this there isn't much of an arch or satisfying conclusion compared to most other episodes where Mulder or Scully feel impacted by the plot in some way. Second, the space ghost is just fuckin goofy. The vibes and the guest star are very cool though. I don't skip it for sure.
>season 1-6watch pretty much everythingfirst film isn't required but isn't bad, if you watch it watch between seasons 5 and 6>season 7-9just watch monster of the week episodes>2nd filmwouldn't bother>revivalpretend it doesn't exist
>>216930758It is very dated im not gonna lie. TV Shows are made very different nowadays. These were shows designed to go on for years so there is a central plot but also many side plots and episodes that have nothing to do with the central plot. Give it a try though it is a cozy show.
>>216938320>>revival>pretend it doesn't exist
>>216934486Joss Whedon ruined everything with his quip a minute bullshit.
>>216937384But Roland is a good episode, even if not especially memorable. I never heard anyone having strong opinions about it one way or another.
>>216939432Must be something like that. but I still cant get over the change in dialogue from now and watching an older show from the 90s. They both speak English, but the intent behind the language has completely changed. Like the idea of a personality has changed, therefore the language employed has changed. There is something deeper here, although i am not the person to figure it out. But I do love The X-Files simply for the dialogue, as strange as that is.
>>216939603I think it's a pretty good ep. I like the episodes with genuine freaks and weirdos in it like Roland and of course Humbug. The scenes with Roland and his retarded girlfriend are pretty whacky though
Alright bros give me a list of the ten essential monster of the week episodes for a first time watcher
>>216940161If you are a first timer you should just watch from the start. Season 1 is is really quite good.Squeeze is one of the first episodes and its a banger for of a motw
What's everyone's preferred jumping off point? I know season 5 was supposed to be the last season, with a trilogy of movies, but we got just the one before season 6 was greenlit. I don't want to end after Fight the Future, because some of my favorite episodes are in season 6. I heard Carter wanted to end after 6 before 7 got approved, but season 6's finale is such a downer to end on. Same thing with season 7 and having Mulder being abducted. I've heard some people like to stop with the genie episode. I've considered stopping after I Want to Believe, but I really don't want to trudge through season 8 and 9 because it's just not the X-Files without Scully and Mulder.Obviously I've watched the show before, but I don't see myself bothering with the revival seasons, or the two recast seasons again.
>>216936824Especially after S6, you can skip any mytharc episodes and only watch the good MOTW ones.
>>216940471There are a few decent revival episodes.
>>216934529>anon makes an X-Files thread>another anon becomes convinced to give it a shot>other anon watches it>likes it>makes an X-Files thread>another anon becomes convinced to give it a shot>other other anon watches it>likes it>makes an X-Files threadThat's how word of mouth works, anon.
>>216940514I mean there are, but if you're going to watch that far ahead you're kind of limited for "unofficial series end." The actual finale sucks, and the closest episode that can be seen as a send off is the Mandela one and Scully saying she wants to remember how it was.
>>216940161>monster of the weekThe term "monster of the week" is misleading, because in most cases they are murderers and psychopaths, there are only a few episodes with real monsters.
>>216931454You are slanderous pervert for saying Gillybean being a turboslut in real life is anything but a gift from God.
>>216935016the field where I died
>>216942128Ironic shitposts are still shitposts, anon. That said I've begun to like First Person Shooter
>>216935016Fearful Symmetry
>>216930758Never watched the last season because the plotline with their son is just retarded
>>216930758It got boring very quick when I tried. The formula is clearly outdated.>>216930815Never thought she'd have huge feet. Duchovny's a tallchad so she always looks tiny in comparison.>>216931454You are correct, reboot seasons made me want to puke.>>216935210Bambi a qt. For me it's the nazi ghost ship one, later seasons I think.
>>216940161As >>216940328 said, it doesn't really work that way. The "monster of the week" episodes are the best, but they lean on the context of the overall conspiracy. You'll never really understand the series without recurring themes like the Smoking Man, Mulder's sister, black oil, the Lone Gunmen, etc. But if you insist, my Top 10+ are probably:>S1 E12: Fire>S1 E20: Darkness Falls>S1 E21: Tooms>S2 E14: Die Hand Die Verletzt>S2 E20: Humbug>S3 E12: War of the Coprophages>S3 E14: Grotesque>S3 E17: Pusher>S4 E04: Unruhe>S4 E06: Sanguinarium>S4 E12: Leonard Betts>S5 E12: Bad Blood>S5 E18: The Pine Bluff Variant>S6 E21: Field Trip>S7 E14: Theef>S7 E21: Je SouhaiteA few of those are comedy episodes (I'll leave it to you to find out). And it's hard to draw a line, around this time of year I might also include S06E06, "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas". But there's a lot of kino to be found in that list.
>>216943366FUCK, I forgot to include S1 E03, Squeeze, like >>216940328 said. Obviously you need to watch that before "Tooms".
>>216940161>Season 1: Squeeze, Ice, Eve, Tooms, Beyond the Sea, Shapes, Darkness Falls>Season 2:The Host, Firewalker, Red Museum, Irresistible, Humbug, Our Town>Season 3: DPO, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, War of the Coprophages, Pusher, Jose Chung's From Outer Space, Quagmire>Season 4: Home, The Field Where I Died, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, Small Potatoes>Season 5: Detour, The Post-Modern Prometheus, Kitsunegari, Bad Blood, The Pine Bluff Variant>Season 6: Drive, Triangle, How The Ghosts Stole Christmas, Agua Mala, Monday, Arcadia, Three of a Kind, Field Trip>Season 7: Hungry, Millennium, The Goldberg Variation, Orison, X-Cops, First Person Shooter, Hollywood AD>Season 8: Roadrunners, Via Negativa, Medusa, Vienen, Alone>Season 9: 4-D, John Doe, Improbable, Scary Monsters, Release, Sunshine Days
>>216943138>Bambi a qt. For me it's the nazi ghost ship one, later seasons I think. Not the cockroach one, although she was really hot, lucky that old bastard in wheels, but it was Darkness Falls, I looked it up
>>216940161>essentialNot sure about which ones are essential but I went through the list of episodes I've watched so far (made it up to S06E18) and here's what my top 10 motw looks like:S01E03 SqueezeS01E08 IceS01E13 Beyond the SeaS03E20 Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'S05E12 Bad BloodS05E18 The Pine Bluff VariantS06E02 DriveS06E03 TriangleS06E04-5 Dreamland I & IIS06E06 How the Ghosts Stole ChristmasThat being said I thought the myth arc was better overall so far (or at least more consistent). The good motw episodes are really good, it's just that there were too many mediocre ones.
I wish I was cool like Mulder
>>216937356Havent heard this in a while. Kino 90s music video
why didn't he simply eat fat guys, of which there are no shortage of, instead of prowling the early internet for lonely fat women?
I just started with this show for the first time and I'm watching the episode "Space" as I'm typing this. Already by two minutes, I had to search if this shit was one of the worst episodes in the show.I am not surprised at what I found but I am surprised to find this thread. I hope series veterans find this post funny.
>>216945334It's defs not the worst ep, even if we are only talking the original run, but its very understandable why it gets ranked lowly.I still like it though for its weirdness
>>216944173>S06E04-5 Dreamland I & III like to imagine that Monday is part of a trilogy of episodes that belongs with Dreamland I and II. There's an argument to be made that the whole loop is occurring because the last remnant of the Dreamland fiasco, and branch point, is the waterbed in Mulder's apartment
>>216945670Never noticed that. Interesting idea, though I'm guessing it's probably just a coincidence.I don't really get why people seem to like Monday so much, it was kind of boring and repetitive desu.
>>216946164>Never noticed the mirror ceiling above the water bed and his apartment getting remodeled by a pick up artist in Dreamland.Do you have some extra chromosomes?
>>216946402Well I never made the connection. Which surely isn't that retarded of me? I don't autistically keep track of all this stuff.
>>216944560because that would've been gay
>>216940161to me it is this guy
I'm officially reopening the X-Files
Sex with scully
>>216944560He could have found skinny women and fattened them up too.
>>216930758YesYou watch it for the "monster of the week" episodes, but the main overarching Alien Conspiracy plot kind of jumps the shark after the first movie "Fight the Future" (that takes place between Season 4 and 5); then the sub-plot gets convoluted and boring, and the conclusion to Fox's missing sister misses the mark....then they try to replace Fox and Scully with Doggett and Reyes, and never stuck...Then the revival happened (Seasons 10 and 11), and it was 'meh'... more of the same, trying to re-capture the spark....but like other long unsolved plot threads (like Scully's alien-hybrid baby) it fizzled.Good to watch once through, and accept it for what it was doing during the 90s....
>>216940161Darkness Falls for sure.
the one thing i dislike about the later seasons is scully being a believer in all the supernatural alien stuff Like obviously it has to go that way after all that shit and 7 seasons, but she doesn't have what maulder had.
>>216949359I thought that was one of the things the post-Mulder seasons pulled off well, where Scully became the schizo and Doggett was the skeptic
>bigfoot ate his ass? Scully, let’s go. >religion? Scully, don’t be so naive.
>>216931454Truth, but the revival had a couple good comedic episodes
>>216949792That divergence between them really is super contrived. Her religion episodes and Mulder's dumb quips about it are also very (((Hollywood))).
