The pacing hurt this movie a lot. It should have been a seasonal anime.

wrong, it is the perfect bait and switch. before intermission is a cutesy romance with occasional creepy moments and after intermission is balls-to-the-walls action. it is a near-perfect theatre experience.

I just don't like it. Every single character is some quirky homestuck chungus. The plot development is completely arbitrary and cryptic.
Maybe schizos think it's cool since that's how they parse the world.

Pacing was basically the same as the source material. Going a little slower wouldn't have hurt, but I also wouldn't necessarily say it would've been an improvement.
