The Pitch Produce two self contained films called 28 Minutes Later and 28 Hours Later. They bridge the gap between the lab breach and Jim waking up. No retcons or modern tropes. Just the pure collapse of the UK in real time.Film 1: 28 Minutes Later The film opens with 2 minutes and 8 seconds of normalcy at the University of Cambridge. We follow a male lead in a class of 28 students. As they walk outside there are 2 people ahead and 8 people behind when the first Infected hits the group. This is a real time sprint. It captures the confusion where Rage is mistaken for a riot. We see the TV to window progression from the original film. First it is a news report then sirens then the Infected smash through campus windows. It ends at the 28 minute mark with total local collapse.Film 2: 28 Hours Later This film covers the frantic exodus toward the North. The Transit Horror: We see the human tide at train stations. Because platforms are so packed the Infected scramble on top of the standing crowd to reach victims in the center. The Bogged Exodus: Gridlocked roads lead to people driving across fields only for cars to get bogged in the mud. This turns the countryside into a graveyard of trapped vehicles. The Global Panic: Background news shows Paris and New York falling. This leaves the audience unsure if the world is gone or if it is just misinformation. The Connection The duology ends at the 28th hour when survivors reach the M602 outside Manchester. They encounter the Forty Second Blockade and a younger Major Henry West. The final line is West telling the students You are safe here with me. This sets up 28 Days Later perfectly since we know this blockade will fall and West will eventually lose his mind.
