I remember watching this show in the late 90s. sometimes when it was on tv, it was never a favorite or something. but apparently it was very, very popular in its time.watching it now makes me wonder why. it's terribly unfunny. what's the appeal?

It was a more comfy time. Tim Allen and Jonathan Taylor Thomas had charisma that carried the otherwise average jokes. And like others said, the mom was hot.
