>Sonic The Hedgehog is a 1995 American science-fantasy comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis with Ken Penders serving as Chief Creative Consultant. The film was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The film's score was composed by John Williams. The film is set in 1990 and tells the story of United States Air Force veteran Joshua Pinski (Keanu Reeves). Pinski is nicknamed 'The Hedgehog' due to his prickly disposition and Pinski is always wearing blue clothes whenever he is off-duty. Josh 'The Hedgehog' Pinski is one day hanging out in the lab of his best friend, the genius scientist Miles 'Tails' Prower (Steve Buscemi). But when one of Miles's experiments on speed goes wrong (or right, depending on your perspective), Josh suddenly gains the ability to run faster than the speed of sound. The American government then gives Pinski the codename 'Sonic' after it learns about Pinski's newfound super speed.>After the end of World War 2, hundreds of scientists from former Nazi Germany were secretly taken to the United States of America for government employment as a part of Operation Paperclip. One of these scientists was Doctor Ivo Robotnik (Danny DeVito), a genius renowned worldwide for his intelligence. Two space organisations were formed in the United States with the assistance of Nazi scientists on July 29, 1958. One of these organisations was the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (or NASA for short), while the other organisation was not known by the general public and was therefore appropriately called the Secret Space Program (or the SSP for short). Robotnik became the highest-ranking official of the SSP and helped to create a space station known as the Death Egg to protect Earth from potential extraterrestrial threats. (end of part 1)
>>216938008>(start of part 2) To aid in its mission of protecting Earth from potential extraterrestrial threats, the Death Egg is equipped with a weapon known as the Atomizer. The Atomizer is a fiercely destructive weapon that is a beam of pure energy which reduces any object it is fired at to its constituent atoms. However, the Atomizer can only be activated through the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds - magical gems that bestow godlike power. Robotnik becomes insane and broadcasts a message to the entire world that he is going to fire the Atomizer at Earth itself to effectively erase the entire planet out of existence.>Luckily for Earth, however, Robotnik only has six of the seven Chaos Emeralds. It's now up to Joshua 'Sonic The Hedgehog' Pinski to help save the world from the sinister Robotnik. But Josh is not alone in his quest to save Earth. Joining Josh are his three companions from high school - his best friend Miles 'Tails' Prower, his friendly rival the legendary boxer Theodore 'Knuckles' Hoffman (Vin Diesel) and his on-again-off-again fortune teller girlfriend Amy Rose (Sandra Bullock). Using Miles's latest invention, a device known as the Chaos Emerald Detector, they must find the last Chaos Emerald before Robotnik does in a desperate race against the clock. (end of part 2)
>>216938016>(start of part 3) The film ends with Joshua, Miles, Theodore and Amy having saved the world by defeating Robotnik once and for all. Then two employees from Sega of Japan, Yuji Naka (played by Yuji Naka himself) and Naoto Ohshima (played by Naoto Ohshima himself), visit Joshua and his friends in the United States of America and offer to create a video game series in honour of Joshua's heroic deed of saving the world. Joshua agrees but only if Miles, Theodore and Amy are also a part of the video game series. Naka and Ohshima agree to this condition and create the concept of the 'fursona' for the Sonic The Hedgehog video game series by depicting Joshua in the aforementioned video game series not as a human nicknamed 'Sonic The Hedgehog' but as a literal hedgehog, albeit a hedgehog that is anthropomorphic and blue. The first Sonic game is then released one year later in 1991, with 'Tails' debuting in Sonic 2 in 1992 as an anthropomorphic fox, Amy debuting in Sonic CD in 1993 as an anthropomorphic female hedgehog and 'Knuckles' debuting in Sonic 3 & Knuckles in 1994 as an anthropomorphic echidna. Although the film failed critically and commercially, it developed a cult following over the years and in 2015 the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant".
