So I gather from shills that Amazon is retconning actual pre-existing lines of elves as black but have they explained where the black comes from? Like, these lines of elves all split from one another in order to come to exist, so in what context were black genes introduced during such a split? These elves existed before men did and are described in lore as de-factl pure blooded elves especially given the complete and total absense of other intelligent races during the formative period of core elvish familial schisms.
Honestly if they wanted to edit the lore and go all autistic about the untold story of the black elves and chinese elves and black dwarves and mystery hobbits that would be a fine and entertaining show in and of itself, expanding the lore for nushit audiences so that they can market totally new diverse stories for the diverse markets they envision. I wouldnt watch it, but I wouldnt feel insulted because it'd leave a fine line between the core material and the expansion material. I get how some rich, chart-following, card carrying lib egghead producers could have minimized the impact of simply transforming entire clans, families, etc without accounting for the in-universe historical implications, but I think that is because they are used to handling normal fantasy schlock and not autistically sacred high fantasy. By nature, every thing that exists in the story has a complete history going back to the beginning of the world. Black people dont just BLOOP into existence randomly within sets of white people. Black people are entire civilizations of their own that developed in their own geographic locales and their displacement or genetic combination within territories of other races is a result of actual historical realities. Amazon short-changes both black people and the genre of high fantasy by suggesting these racial differences are superficial. If I were black I would feel insulted at being shoehorned in as a fair skinned race with no explanation or acknowledgement of the unique identity of my race and how race would affect's people's lives.
