Give christian Kino.
The doubt ridden angsty stuff.... not the hallmark stuff
>solid 8/10

They weren't Christian, they were Jesuits. Those faggots are Papal glowniggers who have been kicked out of France, Spain, Portugal, and tons of other countries. No wonder Japan wanted them out too.
>>
>>216940151
This movie sucks. Rodrigues should have let the Japanese converts die. Nor they are damned to hell and so is he. Only a cuck would think that apostasy is better than letting others suffer or die. Goes completely against the message of Christianity, and if you bought into it you are a retard with no convictions.
>>
A true Christian would've proudly died a completely pointless death, and dragged others down with him.

Fine. This one. It's good, but you need to think deeply about the plot. A lot of people misunderstand it, but the movie is a meditation on futility and meaning. If you knew the outcome was always going to be the same, what would you do in Jesus' circumstances
>>
>>216940321
Since you're a cuck who watches anything without wondering about nuance, I'll rec something simple like Ben-Hur (1959) or Jesus of Nazareth (1977)

Here! I'll show you how its done:

>of Gods and Men
This movies awesome.
It is based on a true story that took place at the Tibhirine Monastery in Algeria, where nine French Cistercian monks lived in the early 1990s. As mujahideen fighters returned to Algeria from Afghanistan following the war with the Soviets, the monks became targets of radical Islamist groups. They were eventually kidnapped and murdered in cold blood. They knew this outcome was an inevitability but chose to stay to serve their community and worship god.
Awesome movie. very affecting.

now you try.

>>216940257
yeah just how Jesus let people die instead of saving them
>>
>>216940522
shut up nerd
>>
>>216940603
Uh yeah, Jesus told people to die for him. Christianity is meaningless without the resurrection, and if the fate of all souls is the most important thing then Rodrigues fucked up.
>For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
>Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
>“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple."
>“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.
>>
>>216940257
if you had actually paid attention you'd have noticed that the movie sucks for a completely different reason: Both Rodrigues and Ferreira were only pretending and neither actually apostatized, making the whole point of the movie moot
>>
>>216940660
They did apostatize. They publicly denied Jesus. No amount of "internal faith" makes up for that.
>But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before My Father who is in Heaven.
>>
>>216940656
why did Jesus heal the sick instead of letting them die? Why did he resurrect Lazarus instead of letting him to go heaven? What a prick
>>
>>216940691
>They did apostatize
no, they didn't
>>
>>216940695
To validate his message.
>As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
>>
>>216940719
They did apostatize. That's the actual definition of apostasy, a public renunciation of the faith. There was a whole scandal called the Donatist crisis in North Africa after the persecutions ended. That's apostasy. Jesus says not to break faith with him in front of men, they did so, that's apostasy.
>>
>>216940747
the fact that you would let people suffer and die a gruesome death in the name of your own pride is exactly why this movie is good and makes you buttblasted. It projects your own vanity and ungodliness onto you. Jesus wouldn't care about you stepping onto some stupid ass clay tablet. He would care about you living your life according to the virtues he preached
>>
>>216940747
>public renunciation
so if I publicly deny Islam even though I never believed it anyways I'm an apostate to muslims?
>>
>>216940831
anon just because you enjoy pedo cartoons it doesn't mean you need to "defend" Japan in every thread, this movie isn't even anti-Japanese
>>
>>216940836
No, because you didn't believe in the first place.
>>216940805
Your Lord tells you to die for the faith, he tells others to die for the faith. What you call mercy he calls ungodliness, but what would you understand about godliness in the first place? It's easy to give up your life, it's much harder to give up the lives of others, to let what is sacred and holy be destroyed for the sake of something higher. You will never understand Christianity until you crucify the world.
>>
>>216940151
When is shitalian Scorsese going to do the prequel where christians do "fuck around, find out"?

When is Scorsese going to show how christians infiltrated in Japan by telling the Shogun that Jesus Christ was a disciple of Lord Buddha and Christianity was just another Buddhist school?

When is Scorsese going to show the plan of the jesuists to turn Japan in Philippines 2.0?

When is Scorsese going to show how christian daimyos persecuted their Shinto-Buddhist vassals?
>>
>>216940875
>>216940805
Let me qualify that. It's easy to die for the faith if you know you have a reward. It's much harder when you have to sacrifice good things. Feel free to respond to these quotes then with your own understanding of what Jesus "really meant"
>>216940656
>>216940691
>>
>>216940904
>what Jesus "really meant"
>Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven
Jesus doesn't care about your performative and vainglorious faith. He cares about what's in your heart
>>
>>216940424
ITs kind of a hit and miss movie for me. Some of the script and acting is ass but its heart is in the right place. I think scorsese would have mad a better job of it if he waited ( it hink he said as much in an interview)

>Jesus Christ was a disciple of Lord Buddha
>>
>>216940963
No, he cares that you obey every last word that he speaks. At the end of Silence, Rodrigues listens to a voice that perfectly aligns with what he wants. All that time he was deeply prideful, just like you, who thinks that what Jesus wants is not as important as his own feelings and desires! Scorsese is a clever bastard, and he makes people like you reveal your true colors, because in the end you wouldn't sacrifice it all if given the chance, you'd be just like the young rich man, a traitor too attached to worldly things to do the will of God!
>>
>>216941083
>in the end you wouldn't sacrifice it all if given the chance
that's exactly what Rodrigues did. He sacrificed everything he stood for in order to end the suffering of innocents. Meanwhile you announce that you'd gladly let women and children die so you don't have to feel the discomfort of denouncing your religion in front of a bunch of pagans

This completely missed the point of the book. The Jesuits made the wrong choice. He fantasised that Jesus told him to step on his likeness. The Japanese martyrs had more faith than them.

good choice and im glad you specified the directors cut otherwise I would have been angry.
I watched napoleon and gladiator 2 and they were both shite. I wish Scott retired a while a go.

I also didn't think Exodus was that bad. I was unfairly maligned, I think, because it was a biblical movie.
>>

This. The author was Japanese and wrote it after visiting the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum. It was about the white man being unfaithful. Nagasaki was the most Christian city in all of Japan and President Truman destroyed it.
>>
>>216941120
You don't understand the Bible. You somehow presume that the situation wouldn't be difficult for me, of course it would be! Anyone with compassion would weep, but the point is that if you actually believe in Jesus and in his promises you cannot, absolutely cannot, deny the faith.

>The three sons of devout Danish farmer Morten have widely disparate religious beliefs. Youngest son Anders shares his father’s religion, but eldest son Mikkel has lost his faith, while middle child Johannes has become delusional and proclaims that he is Jesus Christ himself. When Mikkel’s wife, Inger goes into a difficult childbirth, everyone’s beliefs are put to the test.

Should i give the directors cut a try? I recently rewatched the theatrical cut and its to hacky and you can tell it was directed by an atheist. I didn’t mind exodus which has one good moment or two

Wanna watch this and dekalog and the passion of joan de arc
>Best films of all time are also Christian themed
Coincidence i think not
>>
>>216943834
The Director's Cut doesn't remove Ridley Scott's obnoxious atheism, but it does have more moral content. I think that it's better to view the film as a test of Kantian deontology rather than Christian virtue, with Balian listening to his father's call to be a Christian knight, which means more being loyal to the truth (God) rather than to an identity or a place.
>>
>>216943983
Thats a little bit better. With ridley it’s ironic though since i think with the counselor and all the money in the world he got closer to reaching understanding moreso than kingdom of Heaven and Exodus.
>>
>>216943834
>Should i give the directors cut a try?
yes you should brother. It is exponentially better than the theatrical cut or that which is shown on television.
It is almost like two different films. It makes me wonder how someone so powerful as Scott cannot get a decent cut of a movie into production despite being one of the premier film-makers in holy wood and the west since the mid 70's.

GOD-BLESS JESUS CHRIST
>>
>>216944183
Sadly distribution whines too much if the movie is over 150 minutes long. Nowadays thats not that big of a deal which should incentivize Hollywood to produce more Biblical epics or historical epics. God bless
