It was Helen's fault because of hypergamy.

One of the things I really like about the Illiad is that it underlines how radically different ancient people were than modern people.

Today, this would be a star-crossed lovers story and you would have to strain yourself to understand how exactly Paris was in the wrong, but in the actual story it's unambiguous that Paris was essentially pushed into the wrong by Aphrodite herself, meaning that the Gods are LITERALLY the villains of the story.

This is why Plato (via Socrates) basically said Homer was evil and the Illiad should be banned, because it basically teaches you that there's no divine virtue, and thus that any sort of psychotic behavior is permissible.

Capricious gods are not evil gods Abrahambrain (not that the Abrahamic god hasn't wiped out almost all humanity before, and threatened to do so multiple times)

early modern age e.g Romeo and Juliet. today it would be about racism(slavery, colonialism) and misogyny

yeah thats kind of how all the greek myths play out. i think its more following man's hubris as in your rise de to your own power/skill ect and then fall due to your own arrogance. its why you have 'memento mori' to bring the ego back into check or in Christendom the personal relationship with Christ within ourselves and confession

Moral of the story - doesn’t matter what you do, whoever has Gods on their side wins. Trojans only start winning because Hera starts fucking Zeus’ brains out. The Greeks win because the Gods trick Hector to go outside the wall

Romes are true sons of Troy n such

Aphrodite was just doing what vain women do. It was actually Eris that caused everything when she created and threw the golden apple into the party she hadn't been invited to.

>Gods are villains
Correction, the 3 goddesses and Paris were the villains. The 3 for trying to bribe him and him for accepting the bribe. Had he judged fairly none of that ship would had happen.
>>
>>216942276
Wait I thought French were the true sons of Troy, Paris and such
>>
>>216942303
The other 2 would have been mad no matter the outcome.
That's why Zeus refuses to be the judge in the first place.

Point is that greeks gods have human flaws, are petty, jealous and vindicative.

>Paris is named after the Parisii tribe
>The exact meaning of "Parisii" is debated. Some theories suggest it may derive from a Celtic root meaning "boat," possibly linked to the riverine culture of the tribe. Others propose it relates to the word for "swamp," reflecting the geographical features of the area.
thanks ai-chan

It makes more sense to be the french as both French and Trojans had an extremely good defense apart from that one small detail where their enemies outsmarted them.
Trojans: Wooden horse
French: Belgium
