Is your local theater closing? In 2026, many will say 'yes'>The last movie theater in the region between Thousand Oaks and Woodland Hills—and south all the way to Santa Monica—is closing its doors on Dec. 28.>The Regency Calabasas theater at The Commons is being torn down to make way for redevelopment at the Rick Caruso shopping center on Calabasas Road.>“It has been our pride and pleasure to serve the Calabasas community,” Regency Calabasas Commons said in a post to followers on Meta. “We are truly grateful for your patronage and hope we’ve provided you with many great movie memories,” the post said.>The screens opened in December 1998 as the Edward Grand Palace Stadium 6, and with its plush seating and upscale Deco decor it was considered one of the most expensive theaters per screen ever built by Edwards at the time.>What ensued, however was an eventual decline in local attendance brought about by a change in the national movie going experience. Previously having gone out of business were movie theaters in Agoura Hills and Westlake Village.
Dude my childhood theater got a soulless renovation and now just looks like shit
>>216945066My local one got renovated to be this weird self-serve place. I had to go remind the teenagers working there to turn the lights off and start the movie...
>nationwide>story is only about how they're closing in california's failing economywe have more theaters now actually, because i don't live in a 3rd world shithole
>>216945157I wonder how many of these places would be economically viable if the country went back to being White.
not only has my local theatre not renovated so it's still pure 90's sovl kino but it still only employs white teenagers and no immigrants. would 100% not be surprised if it shuts down next year
they should let you do more interesting things there in addition to the traditional sit and stare at a giant screen.
yikes, goodnight Mrs Calabasas wherever you are
>>216945523>cause got a GREAT CALABASASS
>>216945015>pay over $20 (twenty united states dollars) so you can sit in unclean seats over a sticky floor surrounded by a bunch of annoying, smelly loudmouths>another $15+ if you want to distract yourself from this suffering with popcorn and a sodaDamn why did people stop going...
>>216945015People used to go several times a month to the movies, you knew that?In the 70sMovies were simpler, I take you thatBut also>high rotation>fresh titles weekly>your whole community was on itThe pricetag doesn't matter, the problem is AAA blockbusters that are projected for 13 months
