>>216949599So where's all the shitty parodies and lesser films trying to ride off this gay ass film series success? For fuck sake Alien had such an impact literally every science fiction horror makes reference to it. Why the fuck aren't there more films that are trying to recreate what Avatar did in its own genre?
>>216949599it's an evolutionary adaptation to fool fish
>>216950478avatar is all spectacle and zero substance
>>216950401The writing could be better, but they are anything but slop. There is an insane level of care and craftsmanship involved, which is why people go see them
>>216950478There isn't enough meat on Avatar's bones to even parody. It's just an ugly cg sloppa amalgamation of other, much better films. What is there to even say about it? "Dude, smurfgully, lmao". That's it.
>>216950512Avaslop
>>216949599DRIP
>>216950478There is a mockbuster for the new one
>>216950478All of Avatar's relevance comes from it's technological CG stuff. And there were a bunch of movies that did try to ape it. When the first Avatar came out there was like 5 years of blockbusters trying to cash in on 3D slop before that shit mercifully died off.
>>216950516>smurfgullykek
>>2169505853D movies didn't die off, it's just something that became talked about less. It became something you would (most likely) grudgingly pay extra for because a 3D showtime is more convenient for you than a 2D one
It resonates with the recent lack of sincerity in movies.Everyone in Avatar speaks their mind, good or evil, nobody has a thought that they don't share or make clear. The plot is direct, no twists or misdirection or some epic "gotcha" subversion. Everything is presented as-is and clearly.Even Quaritch and the human side, which can easily be presented as conniving and misleading, seem to make their position and goals clearly stated. This alone is a breath of fresh air when every director and scriptwriter is trying to be smarmy and witty and all the scripts are loaded with shit nobody in their right mind wants to see.
The problem is nerds don't like these movies. You don't see discussion about them online because most of the people who go see them are "normie" types, usually women. Nerds are usually men and these movies don't appeal to men. So there is no discussion about them outside of a few gay/furry communities.

>>216950729We live in a technological age where everyone is on multiple devices all day and addicted to information. going "back to monke" does not resonate with people. it feels patronizing and chastising.cameron's hippie native american new age spiritual stuff has been phased out decades ago, the last gasps of it were in the 90s.that's why it culturally doesn't click with anyone. the special effects are great and the characters have simple arcs that are easy enough to follow and jake is riding his dragon around and so on so it's easy on the eyes but nobody is buying the "go live with natives and throw away your technology" angle. It comes off horribly naive and cringy. also the navi way of life doesn't even look remotely appealing, they just look like mindless npcs. in way of the water it is even clearly established bullying exists and everyone is snappy and sassy with each other, posturing over trite issues. not really a picture of an enlightened society. even the whales came off as unreasonable, despite being "smarter than us".

>>216950317Water Na'vi are a bunch of pricks who will feed you to a space shark because you don't have the same number of fingersAnd even when they're playing 'nice' they're still a bunch of whale-worshipping pacifist judgemental wankersKind of wanted them to get their shit wrecked by the RDA ngl
>>216949599avatar 3 is just bloods vs crips
>>216950729It’s more that it’s all on screen. Everything is either adequately explained or obvious from sight. There’s no “ackshually according to frame 430482 of the second movie x is actually y which coincides with what [minor character] said in the first movie” there’s no handwoven plot centric technology. The audience is directly shown how everything works. Nothing is confusing or obtuse. So with zero “discussion” asses keep being put in seats because there’s nothing to take any member of the audience out of it.
>>216951018>we're all pacifists haha>we'll leave a guy to get eaten by a monster sea creature as a prank bro
>>216951018If they were pacific then they wouldn't fight the humans, which they do, multiple times

>>216950478You're in the wrong decade for these kinds of parodies.>Why the fuck aren't there more films that are trying to recreate what Avatar did in its own genre? What made Avatar Avatar is precisely being in the sci fi adventure escapist genre. It wouldn't work, or wouldn't work as well, if it were a noir thriller, or a romcom.
>>216951297It had some fun jokes for a while though
>>216950658Hell no I wouldn't 3D movies are for children and ruin the experience.

Zoomers around here stopped wearing the broccoli cut a couple of years ago. I commute between two college towns and in one they're all dressing like it's the 80's, complete with boxy clothes, mullets, mustaches and aviator eyeglasses, and in the other they dress sort of neutral-90's/00's. The women have moved on from high waisted mom jeans to these parachute pant things. They all look the same but the broccoli cut is out
The third iteration of this film wasn't as good as the other two imo. Lots of rehashing and "nods" to the first two films with many scenes reused outright. They seemed to imply that Jake was rolling his eyes at his own dialogue in parts, too. Quarritch also felt too one-dimensional here imo, showing up to deliver 2-3 lines like a cardboard cutout and move the plot forward but without much real exposition or character development.
>>216949607no, they don't wear them
>>216950685I've seen people bashing the scene where Kiri is told about her "parentage" complaining that it's an underwhelming twist or underwhelming "big reveal." It's neither, it's just the part of the movie where a character learns something we already knew that was kept from them for a good reason, jesus fucking christ.

>>216949599What's the appeal of this movie??? I tried watching it twice because people made a hug fuss about it when it came out and I couldn't sit through it for more than 20 minutes!!! I know environmental people like it for some reason.
>>216956350So you haven't seen it. No one should have to explain it to you when you could instead just watch it all the way through, once
>>216956708I made an effort I just couldn't it was too boring.
>>216956752No you didn't make an effort. If you care enough to demand explanations for why people like it, then you can just watch it once.
>>216956350It's a 4K reel made to show off fancy TVs at the store. You're not supposed to actually watch Avatar, it's like paying to watch ads.
>>216949599The meme associated with avatar having no cultural impact has paradoxically given it a degree of cultural impact. it's apparently so unimpactful on culture that people can't help but talk about how it has no impact... therefore you could argue it does in fact have impact
>>216957016Yep. It incites a unique level of anger over how these movies keep getting made and being successful, which isn't seen for other worse franchises like recent Star Wars or the MCU or Fast and Furious etc
>>216956350Normalfags just like it for the pretty visuals and simple characters. More so the former.
>>216950512>There is an insane level of care and craftsmanship involved>whole movie is middle quality game cutscene tierIt fucking stuttered all the time like it was struggling to load. Unironically sub crysis tier, grim.
>>216957016>Avatar is the Milhouse of movies
>>216957547Stuttered? No, the Avatar movies don't stutter. If you perceived something like that, it probably had to do with the video player you chose. They can have the peculiarity of switching back and forth between 24 and 48 fps from shot to shot within the same scenes, but if this bothers you there are also non-HFR versions which are the standard 24 the entire time
