In this continuity you have time travel and other stuff that would not easily graft onto Zahn's trilogy. In the tradition of the OT, Zahn wrote a tale that appeared large in scope but was really focused on a small number of characters. Disney's big Thrawn conclusion will have to bring in heroes and sidekicks from across all the shows - as someone said above, it will be like Endgame.
