People are prophesying that there will be a "big 3" at the end of this most recent flurry of the most recent acquisition cycle. But I can't figure out for the life of me who those big 3 will be. Right now we have the big 5. Disney, Netflix, Comcast, Oracle, and Amazon. OOPS, I forgot to name them after the legacy studios that no one recognizes anymore. My question is who is going to swallow up whom to get to that big 3?

When the dust settles it’ll be Disney Paramount Amazon and Netflix. Paramount is the weakest of the bunch and is the most likely to be replaced by a Chinese or other competitor.

Prior to the sale of Warner Brothers Discovery, they're spinning off the broadcast portion of the company, which contains CNN and a few other things. Meanwhile Comcast has also spun off several of their own networks into Versant.

I would be surprised if Versant and Discovery Global didn't get together some time within about 5 years of the Discovery Global spinoff

I don't think Comcast will have enough irons in the fire to be a 'player' anymore, at least in the entertainment side you're talking about. They'll simply be focusing on being a provider of other people's product via internet and cable.

I think Paramount Skydance is a dead company walking. Their financials appear so upside down and weak that I doubt they can survive; which is also why I think they're trying so hard to get WBD, which they won't get in the end.

In the end there will be debt. Lots and lots of debt.

yeah paramount is definitely a zombie company at this point only being supported as a nepobabies pet project.

I think it'll be replaced by Apple though. they have enough money to just keep burning until the heat death of the universe.

Predicting a total oligopoly is neither interesting nor exciting. Suddenly all the apologists for projects flopping cos it's just the studio's money cannot admit their own cheerleading am unfree market. Cowardly, conformist generation.

The mouse, the N and Paramount.

Daddy is buying NBC for him

Apple and Amazon will keep at the fringes.

Paramount's slate is just hilarious. It's amazing how shit this is. If they didn't have Oracle money, they'd be fucked.

So... What's the end state of all of this?
Further consolidation into one ginormous megacorp?
The industry crashing down for everyone involved?
An endless game of companies merging and breaking apart over and over?

kek they also trusted Tom Cruise to spend an ungodly amount of money on Mission Impossible only for it to flop. that nigga has gotten way too much good will from Top Gun 2.
