>>
>>216955309
Nah, they blew chunks. The first movie literally starts with racist Asian stereotypes discussing tax policies and trade blockades. And it only goes downhill from there.

Maybe if it had been made in the late 80s / early 90s when George still gave a shit and cgi still hadn't taken over movies, it could have been good but by that time he was just a rich, fat little man who barely managed to hide his boredom directing in an airconditioned greenscreen studio with every comfort available to him. The energy and creative nous that came from being willing to shit his guts out in the middle of Tunisia to create kino was long gone.

Name your just butt hurt. The main culture relevance above all it did is droids and clone troopers that entered the cultural zeitgeist. Clones in percituclar, espically with Clone Wars tv show and the bad batch, have become their own characters in it of themselves. I mean look at Captain Rex.
>>
>>216955475
It makes the Star Wars universe less of a cartoon that they didn’t always have crazy emperors and death planet guns and had to deal with mundane regular shit like tax issues. It makes the Clone Wars and Empire seem much more grand in scale to know that at the start of it all was a dumb blockade issue for a single planet. Sorry this flew over your head and you needed it to be a children’s bedtime story about da evil bad Empire all the time.

The original Star Wars films are kids films as well but The Phantom Menace was super fucking childish, it felt like a baby movie, and no kid above the age of 5 likes to feel talked down to. It's like jangling keys levels of retardation, like Teletubbies kind of shit.

>>
>>216955441
That was what I liked it for too. It added whole new factions. Droid armies were cool as fuck and showing how the jedi operated before they were wiped out was great. I never got the politics complaint, even as a kid. The politics of everything tied it all together. It's a galactic war, how could it not have a bunch of political stuff happening? How does one become emperor of the galaxy without politics? People never heard of the 'show don't tell rule' and hoped it would all be explained in the title crawl.

>People never heard of the 'show don't tell rule' and hoped it would all be explained in the title crawl.
They're always like this. Remember how people bitched for years about how Christopher Nolan overexplains everything in his movies and his dialogue is like it was written for retards? Remember how when Tenet came out and there was ONE sequence where he followed the rule "show don't tell" like people had been crying for for over a decade and the immediate response was "WTF I couldn't hear anything anyone was saying during the freeport tour how am I supposed to know what Max was doing without dialogue?" Everyone loves to bleat on and on about "show don't tell" right up until a director actually does it and there isn't a detailed plot synopsis or trivia page or youtube breakdown up to describe what happened. You have to not listen to the overwhelming majority of audience complaints, they're fucking morons.

watto is greedy, and engages in human trafficking and chattel slavery
neimoidians make inferior products, and struggle to float a viable bluewater navy
jar jar is an unintelligent thief, and possibly evil
