My theory after watching the first one was that they filmed so much that they decided to split it up, that seems to be true.
The first one seemed like an amazing film that they decided to cut in half and fill with what would be scenes that didn't make the final cut. It was just jarring in the second half, everything with the mother seemed to completely stunt the pace and themes.

Such a shame. Once the trilogy is out, you will probably be able to take scenes from all 3 and Frankenstein together would have been "28 Years Later"

Nah, I read in the build up for 28 years later with Danny Boyle saying how this was always the deal they had with the studio. Danny wanted a trilogy, but the studio wasn't sure. So they came to a compromise. Shoot 28 years and bone temple back to back, with a third film only happening if both films are successful. 28 years was a hit, so I think an eventually sequel to Bone Temple will happen. Unless it flops massively of course.
