It used to be comfort food television to unwind to before going to bed. Fads change. Nowadays, people like shows to be like faux-cinematic soap operas that they can get lost in. Sitcoms are too naive, but we just traded one bad trend for another. In 50 years time, people will probably look back on this era of prestige television with contempt. I can't say I'm sad about the death of the sitcom however. I work with a bunch of baby boomers/Gen Xer's and their humor is basically timed like sitcom humor, and it's fucking horrible. >>216960025If you can't tell Friends sucks even with the laugh track, I don't know what to tell you.
