So this was the movie that killed the slasher genre, right?
I haven't seen a slasher that wasn't a shitty ironic comedy since then
And no scream didn't stop the 00s from having hundreds of serious slashers
>>
It's amazing how dated this movie seems already. Pure cringe millennialcore.

>hundreds of serious slashers

Like what?

There have been a few serious slashers since then (Thanksgiving, Heart Eyes, one could argue Terrifier). I think what is more an issue with slashers being garbage is that all horror movies now have to be meaningful and intelligent instead of dumb exploitation fun. We see things like directors saying 'Oh I loved <CLASSIC SLASHER MOVIE> as a kid and I wanted <SHITTY MODERN MOVIE> to be a love letter to the genre!' when the film is announced and then as it gets closer to release you start hearing things like 'I think it's important that we take the good from the genre without the bad and improve on some of the outdated ideas that plagued the genre' which is why you get shit like The Final Girls.

terrifier 3 is definitely a comedy

>it's a movie's fault hollywood is creatively bankrupt and tries to copy it

Go watch Longlegs and Weapons, schlomo.

How is fucking Weapons a slasher?
>>
>>216967201
not slashers

I wouldn't say Wonderful Knife was a comedy.
>>
It’s Groundhog Day but a millennial slasher. I remember liking it because it was exactly what I was expecting

>NOOO!
>Films can't just be what they're advertised as! They have to be subversive while also paying due respect to the oh-so-important genres that they're a part of, reminding us how great the boomers who made the first films in the genre are and how modern films can never compare
>You can't just dismantle that and poke fun at all the cliched tropes

Idk what a “serious slasher” would even be. The best you can hope for is entertainment and some tense fight scenes
Idk why but this reminded me of this one Emily Blunt movie when she’s trapped in a frozen car with this weird incel(real) but the movie is written in a way that it apologizes for the weird incel and has Emily Blunt’s character apologize for her behavior and then they kiss. I might be the only viewer but if I were to make an argument about a shitty horror movie negatively impacting the genre it would be that
