>>216971889Thc book is dark satire. Dude rico and s the fucked up veterans are about to be killed. He has PTSD so bad he starts having full body shakes anytime combat is about to start. He's basically been ground up, is in a living hell and knows it's not a rescue mission but a suicide mission because they plan on shattering the planet. You zoomers... Something is wrong with you. Did you honestly miss Rico being all fucked up by the end
Seriously they even show rico on some of the covers which Heinlein said were him. He's only supposed to be 23 but looks like he's 50 covered in scars. It's really obvious in the book. The shakes he gets, the constant memories of his friends and loves fucked up or twisted. By the end of the book he's fucking mangled. He doesn't feel comfortable around people when he goes home he gets in a fight and in the book you can tell him and his guys started it but they blamed the merchant marines. It's basically all quiet in the western front but in space. How did you all miss this

>>216970837It's also clever because in the beginning you see it only as a news broadcast, but later you see it from Rico's perspective (and you get to see first hand just how retarded the cameraman is, which you might've not thought about earlier)It's all quite good. Is it the most complicated thing in film making? No. But it's better than the slop we get these days.
This is Rico by the end. He's 23. He has terrible full body spasms before combat. He has to be medicated. He's fucked up. Lol how did your entire generation miss this. Yes. The book is dark satire. Is it possible to win the initial invasion of Klendathu
Throughout the bookRico explains why rescue crews to save 5 people might result in losing 10. Humans will try to rescue each other. "Men are not potatoes" over and over again. At the end after destroying all the remaining bug planets the remaining veteran troops are about to drop on the bug planet to rescue the pows. But it is also noted the bugs don't seem to take prisoners long term or would have the ability to even do so at mass scale. Meaning there's no pows, the shattered veterans are going down there and the military will blow the planet up. Rico is semi aware but trying to ignore it. The veterans are all shell shocked and becoming increasingly violent. They went from highly trained spartans to beating the shit out of each other when command changed and Rico the whole arc rationalizes everything. More importantly a bunch veterans know of a new earth like paradise where the powerful of humanity actually live incredibly long lives. There's very little radiation. You know something is up when they get sent there. Anyways Rico gets rushed through space ocs
>>216972119lol are you pretending to be retarded

>>216972700Maybe you should look up what Heinlein thought of Starship Troopers? You can't stand that the book describes a functional right wing society, so all you can do is declare that it's fascism and then direct people to Heinlein's view of fascism.Very clever, but also very dishonest.

>>216972303I think there's literally one combat scene in the entire book, the opening. Maybe, if you count them catching the brainbug at the end as a fight, there are two. A hundred times more words are spent on describing how wonderful Rico thinks women are than on anything related to muh combat trauma. In fact, I don't think there's any of that in the book at all. Mostly, the book is just men talking about practical every-day politics. I remember some of the conversations being pretty good. Like the one where some officer explains to Rico the power that the general(?)'s secretary holds, pointing out that she could well do his job for him, before asking Rico if she *would* do his job for him if it was necessary. Or the conversation between Zim and, I think it was another general, or the same one? Anyway, where they talk about Zim letting the recruit land a punch on him and how much the whole situation is tearing him up. The conversation of Rico being handed his stripes or whatever they were is pretty memorable too. Or where he meets his dad again out of nowhere, after thinking he had died. A lot of good stuff in the book, actually. None of it combat related. The parts about how great women are, and how they're toes the best pilots yo, are cringe, though.
I think when I pointed out the shakes, the book cover, the author, the ending, they don't keep powsYou realized you misread the book and you want to bury that thought by arguing. Pass. It's a waste of time. I mean if this was in person I'd just hold up the cover. Waste of time. Why even have a discussion. It's Rico. Can't even do there is no good faith why even solve captchas
>>216971097Cool!> keeps filming

>>216970806I rewatched this movie recently. To be honest, I don't understand why it's held up as a satire of anything. It's a funny movie, it's stylish and it's fun to watch, but a satire is supposed to reveal the flaws or errors in something by highlighting them and mocking them. And I don't see anything in this movie other than contempt for the military and for soldiers. It's funny to watch, but it doesn't correspond to anything. Oh, and the political stuff from the novel (which I read a long long time ago) is in this but it's just briefly alluded to.

The scene was scheduled for filming, and actor Clancy Brown has discussed how he was contacted by the film's producers to make an appearance:>They sent me, like, the first 10 pages of it, and I said, "What the F... What is this? Give me the rest of the script?" And they said, "Well, we want your commitment before we give you the rest of the script." And they said, "Well, we're just gonna pay you the same." And I said, "Nah, see you later. [Laughs] I'm not gonna do this. First of all, this makes no sense. Second of all, you're not gonna pay me anything. So there's no reason for me to do this at all!" So then Christopher [Lambert] calls me up and says, "Oh, you've got to do this with us! You've got to do this with us!" I said, "Chris, it's horrible. The idea is terrible, what I read was awful..." And he says, "I helped write that." [Laughs] I'm, like, "Well, I guess I'm never gonna be doing any more Highlanders!" He’s a great guy and I love him to death, but it was doomed from the beginning. If I wasn't getting paid... I will do shit for money. But I'm not gonna do shit for no money. I'll do quality for no money. So if it had been any good, maybe.
