Love these boys
this cartoon looks ugly as hell. Is the plot actually that good to justify it?
>>216973366Yes
>>216973366no
He really did a tremendous job raising those boys.
>>216973366Some of the most natural dialog on television and it's written in a straightforward wholesome way, nothing ironic about it. Which makes it stand out.
>>216973366maybe
>>216973341Australian people aren’t funny
>>216973366watch the youtube shorts to see if you get it. the show filters autists like nothing else.
>>216973368>>216973369Maybe
Is this show taking the Moral Orel route where it starts off innocent and charming and then gets progressively darker as the series goes on
boring af and i get the funny meme visual style
this show is hilarious. I don't understand the frequent comments I see online of "It's so wholesome and there aren't even any jokes!" how do you miss the jokes in this
I don't get it.
>>216973389ok i just watched the first 5 minutes of episode 1 and i think you're right. Still, ugly as hell. Do Aussies actually talk like that, btw?
>>216973389>nothing ironic about it.it's very much a parody of old sitcoms that got overly emotional every episode.
Very hit or miss show, you either love it or hate it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I actually think they're great for the creative ecosystem.
>>216973401>>216973529There's nothing australian about this show, what are you guys talking about? The creator is from Denver.>>216973533reference does not equal irony
It's not ugly. It's a beautiful show.
>>216973565i said parody, not reference
>>216973417There is like a ghost subplot. I think it's ok and is only a few scenes, but i hope they dont go overboard with it i just like the boys being themselves desu.
>>216973634
Im gonna rewatch it and cap all the supernatural elements because im bored so just ignore me.
>>216973729>>216973872Are there supernatural elements in these two screenshots I'm not seeing?
I really hope she goes back to get that diploma.
i love watching innovative tv-shows. it's so rare these days
1. Bomber Jacket2. Hot Tub3. Improv4. Dad's Birthday5. Duncan Holds a Baby6. Plane7. Therapist8. Call to the Battalion 9. Viral10. Movie Night
>>216973980that image made me burst out laughing
>>216973903No the first bit when it happens i remember is the credits to ep one with the dead mum's fingerprint appearing on the glass.
the boys getting aggressive out of nowhere is my favorite bit
>>216973341>another shill thread made by a tranny
>>216974101
>>216973980why do they get weed eyes?
>>216974157they're emotional
i saw a 30 second clip of this and the oys had earings and nail polish onso this show must be for dirty faggots
>>216974223also another clip of them playing with their dads private partsi think this is worse than cp desu
Nothing in ep2 stands out end of ep3 has Preston seeing the dead pilot in the mirror. There is more mirror shenanigans in later eps.
>>216973366>dude what if le ugly cartoon is actually very wholesome insteadSame Adult Swim slop as ever.
>>216975156>uglywhy are weeb slop hogs like this?
>>216975185Those are all very boring designs to me, if that's your idea of a comeback then you should really rethink your priorities and zingers.
Ep 4 has a few things with the dad and the Aztec but i think that's more him and also the boys being delusional rather than the thing with their mum.
>>216975185>Koakuma in CFuck you
>>216973366If you grew up on adult swim and think this animation is ugly the problem is with you. The animation is artful and amusing and its way better than the calarts type shit people have grown accustomed to or the hyper realistic shit
I'm fucking devastated we'll probably have to wait 2 years for a new season T_T
It's nice that Adult Swim finally got out of their Rick & Morty rut. They've been on a roll lately and I'm happy that they're not 100% leaning on R&M all the fucking time.
>>216975688R&M pretty much saved AS iirc
>>216973980Solid ranking though hot tub isnt top 3 personally
EAT SHIT
>>216973479I haven't gotten huge into the show but that part specifically made me laughI'd say the show is entertaining in kind of that Joe pera aspect where you feel like you're just observing the habits of interesting people, the designs of some characters look interesting in a sort of "I've seen that face in a Walmart" before. Not in the freak sense but more in a regular schmoe kinda way. That waitress in the bomber jacket episode is my example but I didn't save a pic so you'll have to take my word for it. It's very adult swim for better or worse. I think I'm finally coming around to it though. I fucking hated common side effects though, even before the show came out the main characters design put me off
>>216973764You're on 4chan bruh. This is one of the hubs for autism. Why do you think you're here?
>>216976003>I fucking hated common side effects though, even before the show came out the main characters design put me offSame, I finally checked it out last weekend and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
They really toned down the mother supernatural elements from the early YT eps.
>>216976149A few episodes are still hinting at it, I like that way instead of it being completely in your face.
Ep7 has a bit with the dad glitching out but that's more to do with the boys spending too long in the hot tub.
Speedy Lamborghini
>>216976177It's already renewed for 2 more seasons so I think they're just trying to stretch it outIf was getting powerful as fast as she was in the shorts she would be already be speaking
>>216976149I think they're building up towards it more
Zero actual pictures of the mum but a shrine to their cat is weird.
>>216976201
>>216976198I considered the idea that she kept them from drowning when the Mexican cleaners found them facedown in the hot tub the next morning.
>>216976251Interesting point anon
>>216976279The muted element of their mother's ghost is the whole joke. They talk about her all the time, her ghost still clearly lingers around them, but there isn't a single picture of her and it's never explained how or when she died and whenever they talk about how well the boys were raised, it is specifically in relation to how well Dad did it without mom. It's the most absurd element of the show and I hope they never ruin it by doing anything but hinting at it.
>>216976278Good point I've been keeping an ear out in ep1 there is a musical sting where they look at the dream catcher but it's not happened again till i think later on in ep8 which I'm about to watch. Been a diffrent musical sting that reminds me of king of the hill a few times though.
>>216973980Pretty accurate list, albeit The Therapist hits a certain string for me so I would’ve rated it a little bit higher
>>216976287Good ol tub girlI love how nips don't censor her geyser spewing asshole but a bare pussy is too far.
havent seen tub girl in probably a decade
Looks kinda like a murder scene
Ep 8 credits i think the sting plays again and the candle just starts burning again from a gust of wind.
>>216973980Improv having the twist ending and lacking much of the wholesome family dynamic brings it a bit lower in my eyes. I think that the biggest appeal of this show is that things turn out alright in the end as the father and his boys connect emotionally over the most trivial of sappy, heartbreaking moments (recalling their mother or their father swearing in front of the boys). The TV series goes back and forth with its balance compared to the shorts, where it's something incredibly minor that causes the piano music and red eyes (dad mentioning "just enough for the eight of us"). The longer runtime allows for buildup which makes the sappy parts a little less out of nowhere, you get time to see the characters as human. The boys aren't getting upset over a single meme Justin sends them, they're being bombarded with them and trying to handle the situation delicately, it's the sincere reaction to what would normally be incredibly mundane as a plot, but that's what makes it just relatable enough. The balance shifts in these episodes where the boys are the primary source of humor to where they and their dad are the most normal people and they have to deal with weirdos like Brianne or Justin where they try to maintain a sense of diplomacy while holding optimistic views on these people. Other times it pushes the boys as being overly-focused on their own family to the point they're seen as just ever slightly too harsh to outsiders, including their girlfriends. Dad swearing will make them tear up and Preston saying goddamn in the Bomber Jacket episode will be seen as a sign of him changing for the worse, but their dad swearing in shock at his surprise party doesn't get a reaction, and Preston habitually using "goddamn" in his vocabulary going forward isn't seen as strange.
It's the worst part of haha you clowns it's cool to keep a different bit up but id rather just see the boys than it.
It's cynical and ugly. Watching this show is bad for your soul.
>>216977339Let me guess, we should be watching Frieren instead?
>>216975156Its a comedy show. It doesn't have to look good. Home Movies looks like shit.>>216976028Speaking of Home Movies, that's what an actually wholesome comedy show is. As close as one can get to it. I don't dislike Haha You Clowns but it's entire premise and presentation is steeped in irony, it's not sincere at all.
>>216977424yeah there's no irony at all in the coach father figure just riffing and improving off of whatever comes to mind in a silly voice
>>216977381Never seen that show, so can't say. Doesn't change how cynical and ugly this show is.
>>216977477Dont address me in your feminine tone
>>216977424>Its a comedy show. It doesn't have to look good. Home Movies looks like shit.what's the point if i cant masturbate? that's why i only watch anime comedies where the joke always is sex
>>216977533tell me all about what a masculine tone is virgie
>>216977303The frequent usage of reflections is starting to stick out to me now
>>216977572I will not engage in roleplay with the likes of you
>>216973412Definitely it's the cats meow
>>216977645who are you talking about "feminine tone" when you sound like a total faggot
>>216977607Yeah it's clearly a thing I'd much rather they drop it
>>216977671Silence.
>>216977744not "shut the fuck up," "silence." what a bitch. sorry your dad was never there for you i guess that's why you prefer home movies
>>216977814Youre overcompensating.
>>216977939you're getting heated little man
>>216977744>tips fedoraS-silence>Flashes sonichu colored steampunk pistol in the matching holster inside suspenders
>>216977339Its not remotely cynical>>216977424Even if the creator is being ironic that doesn't mean the show cant be taken sincerely, which it is for many if not most viewers (including me and the wife)
Did the grandma poison the boys some how? When they're sick at the nursing home all the old people walk away and she just stays there with an evil look on her face
>>216978030The boys called out the fact that she forgot that she promised them the hot tub. There's nothing that makes old people angrier than having to face the fact their mental faculties are failing
>>216978030>>216978051Preston makes a comment "Am /I/ getting Alzheimer's?" in relation to the hot tub discussion, and the dad responds "Hey, come on, Preston", so I assume that it was a shot at her.
>>216978001Anything could be taken some way. You don't present characters in the way the creator does without thinking you're better than them on some level. That's what makes it cynical, or at the very least patronizing
>>216978030This and the baby episode where they torment that bald guy are really weird episodes and out of character for them
>>216978210They're not saints despite their good personality. A lot of times they can be mean like when one of them lost their bomber jacket and took it out on everyone.
>>216978186>You don't present characters in the way the creator does without thinking you're better than them on some levelThis show is such a rorschach test. You're obviously insecure and projecting.>GRRRRR HE MUST THINK HE'S BETTER THAN THESE PEOPLEDo you think the Coens think they're "better" than Minnesotans?
>>216978001>Its not remotely cynicalIt is ENTIRELY cynical
>>216973341this show is sadistic afthe dad killed the mom btw
>>216973366it's wholesome kino nice change of pace actually
Always thought this show was retarded just from the amount of spamFinally watched a clip yesterday and I couldn't have possibly been more right, fuck all of you
>>216973872I've seent a gif of this feller, but I didn't see it.
>>216973917I love the gift he gives her in the end. A fucking history book on WWII, lmao. HISTORY LESSON!
>>216973479> a circumcised penis is the cat's meowlaughed out loud for like five minutes
>>216978225Saw that reply coming. Problem is you could post that same reply in a situation where the creator is certifiably being patronizing. But also, yes. There is an element of that in Fargo too. That doesnt mean I dislike Fargo, and I dont dislike this show so chill out.
>>216975030Him hallucinating being a pliot and then the guy gets shot up, of course.
>>216975362It's still spiritual. The warrior on the tail of the plane was looking out for its passengers and chose to help them in their time of need. There was even a little magical spell cast on the gum before handing it to him.
>>216975185grow up
>>216978451Where's that dumb newgrounds schizo bitch and the AI cartoon everyone here was shilling?
have you ever pranked your dad and immediately started crying
>>216978361Yeah the fact he couldn’t fathom that someone didn’t care to hear about his jacket and he twisted that in to “whoa she must not understand the historical significance of the bombeh jacket” is one of the funniest gags in the show
>>216973341the dad has brown eyesall three boys have blue eyesthe boys might not even be his - he stole themthere was never a mom - she never existedall 4 of them have the same mental illness of seeing things that arent really there
>>216978521No, I sprayed dogturd spray on his sleeping body and ran away laughing
>>216978030Yes, she poisoned their minds with the idea of the hot tub in the first place that vile shrew.
So are you guys ready for them to subvert the whole "wholesome show" in the second season with lore, dark themes, and the supernatural?
>>216978762The "wholesome show" is already the subversion. The "wholesomeness" is the cynical joke.
>>216978762Yes and then they circle back to wholesome chungus 100 Everybody Liked That for season 3 and everyone will like that.
>>216978762Everyone has already said the supernatural element is the worst part.
the dad staring at himself in the mirror for a half minute before the surprise party made me lol hysterically
Why do so many comments in every thread about this show seem like bots?
>>216978843It's not the worst part, it just needs to be used the exact right amount.>Her powers are getting stronger!is such a bizarre thing to say after the blatantly supernatural events of the shorts.>Chair suddenly moving on its own>Foot being tugged in the pool>The fish jumping onto the ship and blankly staring>The bird whistle beside the picture moving on its own>Scary whispering from inside the whistle box, along with the whistle blowing on its own and being hot to the touch>The magic fox and skull beneath their actual house>The maggots crawling out of the burgerIt works for the shorts, but once again, with ten 11 minute episodes, the format and pacing are different. It's more fleshed out, if only by a small amount.
EATTT SHIIIIIIIIIT

This show is the nice version of Beavis and Butthead
I only saw the one, "her power is growing"
