>>216973799The definition of art is cultural expression and communication through skill so he is fundamentally wrong. Cultural expression is inherently tied to the context of it´s production. A time and a place and, more often than not, it "evolves" or rather, change by movements and counter movements. Considering this Video games are very much art, video games are the art of a culture defined by a 2 way communication paradigm or in other words, interactivity. They are the form of cultural expression that represents a culture shaped by the internet. Cinema on the other hand still follows the traditional vertical communication paradigm of emitter and receptor. Now, does that mean every movie or game is art? Personally i don´t think so. I think that, in order to be art both need strong authorial identity. It needs to be a personal vision. The measure of the artist being how good they can use the tools of the given language to convey that vision. Good ideas alone don´t cut it and even technical proficiency alone is not enough.
