It's a fairly common trope, and it's pretty obvious that the suicides aren't meant to be taken literally. They're a rejection of the dreamworld that the character is a part of, whether that's the Matrix, or a mind control machine, or the hallucinogenic used in I Saw the TV Glow. The death isn't actual death, it's a total committal to the character's true life outside of the hallucination. I don't think anybody was out there saying Batman: The Animated Series was telling kids to commit suicide.
